Capitals Aim to Give IPL 2022 Campaign a Boost with Double Over the Knight Riders

After a hard-fought battle against Rajasthan, the DC Men in Blue are ready to start the second half of the season with the same intent and fight. With a 44-run win in the reverse fixture, we go into this clash against the Knight Riders with some confidence. The iconic Wankhede Stadium will play host to this game, our third IPL 2022  game at the venue. The Shreyas Iyer led KKR outfit have won both their matches at Wankhede this season, but have lost their last 4 encounters going into this game.

For the Capitals at the Wankhede, it was a defeat by just 15 runs in our previous game after an incredible fight by Rovman Powell at the death. Ricky Ponting, who is back on the field now, has taken a few positives from the last game and believes that the DC squad have it in them to get the job done in the second half of the tournament.

We’ve all gotta trust that, we’ve all gotta believe that, we’ve all gotta stay up being positive and if we are, things will definitely change for us. So let’s hope, it's the back half of this season, we win 5 out of the last 7, we’ll find ourselves where we wanna be.”

Do We Have Another High-Scoring Game on the Cards?

Last time we faced KKR, our opening duo gave us an exceptional start with both of them scoring half centuries, and our “Araam se” pair of Axar and Shardul finished off in style putting up 215 on the board.

In the chase, Shreyas Iyer compiled a half century, but top bowling performances from Khaleel Ahmed (3/25) and Kuldeep Yadav in particular (4/35) ensured a 44-run victory for the Capitals.

That was at the Brabourne, but can we expect another high scoring encounter this time around? Recent games at the venue suggest that is likely, considering three out of the four teams batting first at the venue put up totals in excess of 185, with RR scoring the highest of 222.

Stat Attack

It will be a remarkable achievement for Captain Pant, as he will be playing his 150th T20 tonight. With good current form, an amazing strike rate of 182.05 and an impressive average of 47.33 at the Wankhede, one can expect something special from the southpaw.

Our pocket dynamo, Prithvi Shaw loves facing KKR as he has scored 392 runs in 7 innings against them averaging 56. Being the leading run scorer for the Capitals this season, he has been very consistent at the top of the order, and he also boasts of the highest strike rate among the top 10 run-scorers of the season - 164.93.

Among the bowlers, Bapu is just 1 wicket away from completing his 150 T20 wickets, and 2 away from another milestone of 100 IPL wickets. Our left-arm pacers are close to milestones as well, with Khaleel Ahmed two away from 100 T20 scalps and Mustafizur 4 away from 250 T20 wickets.

Key Battles

David Warner vs Umesh Yadav

With three half centuries in five innings, Warner has been tremendously successful in punishing the new ball bowlers. Records suggest that he has been scoring against Umesh Yadav at a strike rate of 154 but at the same time, he has been dismissed four times in 9 innings which makes it a must watch powerplay battle.

Axar vs Rana

The left arm orthodox has been very economical against Nitish Rana giving away only 34 runs in the 28 balls they combated, dismissing him twice in last 9 innings. Bapu will be targeting him to keep the middle overs contained.

Captain Pantastic vs Russell

In the last 6 encounters, Russell has got RP17 3 times where he has scored 39 runs in 20 balls at a strike rate of 195, which makes it an interesting death-overs tussle as both will be aiming to finish things off in style. Which way will the battle go?
