Capitals Face The Resurgent Kings In A Promising Thriller

First up, what a day for cricket we witnessed on Sunday!

A Super Over in #SRHvKKR followed by a double Super Over to decide the winner in #MIvKXIP! And all of us out here too, just like you guys, were glued to our sets in one of the most thrilling T20 games anyone has seen!

Speaking of thrillers, our first game of the season, against KXIP, was also a thrilling one, which went into a Super Over and a Kagiso special gave us our first win of the season! In the second leg of the Northern Derby, we are one step closer in qualifying for the Playoffs, and will face the resurgent Kings XI Punjab at the Dubai International Stadium today.

Dubai - A battleground equal for the batters and bowlers

While pitches in UAE in general have slowed down as the tournament progressed, the Dubai International Stadium still serves as a platform for a perfect competition with bat and ball. Although batsmen have faced difficulty in attacking from ball one in the past, they have dominated the bowlers in the middle overs by building a par score of 170-180. Contests here have always been a perfect battle in all departments, and the Sunday night thriller was indeed a proof for that!

We’ve defended a score of 162 against Rajasthan Royals at this venue and do have an upper hand with the bowling unit comprising of the lethal Protea pacers and the intelligent spin duo who have been instrumental in getting break-throughs in the past matches. With the purple cap holder Kagiso Rabada locking horns with the orange cap holder KL Rahul, the second leg of the Northern Derby would be no less than a nail-biting clash again.

Stat Attack

Our bowling unit has gone all guns blazing in this tournament.  The pace unit is responsible for taking 44 wickets in total. While Kagiso Rabada became the fastest to 50 IPL wickets in the last match, his protea counterpart Anrich Nortje has his name cemented in this season’s fastest deliveries bowled. The lethal Protea pair will pose a challenging threat to KXIP’s top order comprising of KL Rahul, Mayank Agarwal, Chris Gayle and Nicholas Pooran.

With 17 wickets and an impressive economy around 7 under their name, our spin department has always been instrumental in their performances, especially in making at par chases, look like an improbable task . The Axar and Ash combo has been vital in breaking crucial partnerships in both halvess of the innings.

Shikhar Dhawan, who clinched two fifties and a century in the last 3 games has had an impressive strike-rate. His dot ball percentage too has dropped from 34.26% in the first 6 to 20.28% in the last 3 matches. Shreyas Iyer is currently the third fastest captain (32 innings) to complete 1000 IPL runs. Eyeing a win on Tuesday at Dubai, he will aim to become Delhi’s first captain to qualify for play-offs in consecutive seasons

With the skipper mentioning about DC’s explosive keeper-batsman Rishabh Pant having a precautionary rest in the last match, the southpaw will look to make his comeback against KXIP on Tuesday. While he is just a six away from completing 100 IPL sixes, he is also just 88 runs short of 2000 IPL runs. Pant is one short of 50 wicket-keeper dismissals for Delhi Capitals as well.

Yes brother, fingers crossed! 🤞🏼

Even our answer is the same!

Key Battles:

Kagiso Rabada vs KL Rahul

Purple cap vs Orange cap – One Epic Battle! Kagiso Rabada’s pace v/s KL’s class serves up to be a mouth-watering clash for cricket fans. Rahul has been the most consistent batsman for KXIP in IPL 2020.

Ash-Axar vs Chris Gayle

The #UniverseBoss Chris Gayle has been a victim to Ashwin and Axar, four and two times respectively in the past. It would be a delight for all cricket fans to watch our spin attack trying to calm the Gayle storm in Dubai.

Shikhar Dhawan vs Mohammed Shami

3-15 against us in our previous game means Mohammad Shami will aim to get the better of our left-handed batsman, Shikhar Dhawan. Gabbar though who has been in blistering touch won’t back down from the challenge.
