Confident DD looking to gain momentum

There is no victory without a battle. The DD boys are fighting it out hard in the middle to keep their VIVO IPL campaign alive. In our previous clash, the team held their nerve in a rain interrupted match to pull off a win on the final ball of the match against Rajasthan Royals. The batsmen played brilliantly to score 196 led by a blitzkrieg 69 off just 29 balls by Rishabh Pant. The target was revised after another rain interruption, leaving the visitors to chase 151 in 12 overs. In the end the match went down to the wire and Trent Boult bowled a magnificent last over as DD sealed a victory over RR by 4 runs (D/L method).

Next up is Sunrisers Hyderabad who we will face for the first time this season at the Rajiv Gandhi International Stadium, Hyderabad. SRH have been a constant figure in the top four this season. They are the team to beat particularly at their home ground where they have proven to be tough to break down. Notably, Hyderabad themselves come into this game on the back of a win over the Rajasthan Royals away from home. We have won 3 of our last 4 encounters against the home side and will need to make it 4 in 5 to keep hopes of a qualifying spot alive. There will be key battles that will provide an exciting backdrop and they will likely influence the result of this match as well.

Key Battle

Rishabh Pant vs Rashid Khan

Rishabh Pant is having his best VIVO IPL season, having already scored 375 runs with a strike rate of 180.2 – the highest for DD this season. He has looked ruthless with the bat and has made the difference to DD’s batting line-up. With his third fifty of the tournament in our last game he will want to keep the same form going at Hyderabad. SRH’s Rashid Khan has made good use of his leg spinners and googlies to deliver fine performances for his team. It will be interesting to see how Rashid Khan uses his spinning abilities against one of the most destructive batsmen of the season.

Amit Mishra vs Kane Williamson

Amit Mishra has been vital for DD’s success this year and the numbers speak for themselves. Hyderabad has been a happy hunting ground for Mishi Bhai as he has taken a total of 27 wickets with an economy rate of 7.26. The leggie was the pick of the bowlers in our last game as well with figures of 1/12 in two overs picking up the crucial wicket of Jos Buttler. SRH skipper Kane Williamson is a quality player and he is one of the few foreign players who is good against spin bowling. Shreyas Iyer will surely look to introduce Mishra against Kane Williamson will and look to send the opposition back to the pavilion early.

DD have the talent in their bank to win all their remaining five games which will help us in our quest to qualify for the play-offs. The team led by Shreyas Iyer has been pulling together in recent matches. The challenge will now be in ensuring the team can bring in some consistency and deliver in crucial situations. DD have able leaders in their ranks and the team management know the right combination that can help them to cross the finish line. With a win in our last game the confident Dilli boys will again look to give their impetus best to pull off a victory at Hyderabad.
