THE SETTING
It was the big one! The most important match of our season so far. The ACA–VDCA Cricket Stadium in Vizag was overflowing with SRH’s fans.
Our eliminator against the Sunrisers Hyderabad was easily one of the most exhilarating matches of this season.
Shreyas chose to field first after winning the toss.
GUPTILL GIVES SRH SOLID START
Guptill ensured a blazing start for the Sunrisers and went on the offensive. Meanwhile, we got the first breakthrough in the form of Saha. Ishant got him on the first ball of the fourth over as the opener went for a lofted shot but was caught by Iyer at mid-off.

At the end of the powerplay, the opposition scorecard read 54/1.
THE RESTRICTION
Our bowlers did a fantastic job in the middle overs to keep a check on SRH’s batsmen. Amit Mishra got the crucial wicket of Guptill as soon as he came on to bowl in the 7th over. The opener tried a slog sweep and Keemo took a fantastic catch at deep midwicket.

Kane Williamson and Manish Pandey tried to build a partnership, but our spinners did a brilliant job in keeping them quiet. Both Axar Patel and Mishra bowled economically when it mattered.
Amit Mishra finished his spell with 1/16 in 4 overs. Just when Pandey was planning to accelerate in the 14th over, our Caribbean duo of Keemo-Sherfane combined to send him back!
In all, we conceded just 50 runs in the middle nine overs.
THE LAST FIVE
There was a lot of drama in the penultimate over. Shankar hit Boult for a 4 and a 6 on the first two deliveries and was caught by Axar Patel at deep midwicket on the third.
More drama followed in the last over as we nabbed 3 wickets in 3 balls, including the wickets of Afghans Nabi and Rashid Khan who are known to hit them big in the slog overs. Nonetheless, the cameos from Nabi and Shankar helped SRH get to a decent total of 162/8 in 20 overs.

QUICK START
Our openers got us off to a flying start. Shaw’s timing was a sight to behold. He was hitting with disdain. Our young opener smashed Khaleel for three fours in the 3rd over.
He played with supreme composure and was fearless at the same time. The stylish batsman then smashed Bhuvneshwar Kumar for two fours and a six in the 5th over. By the end of 6 overs, we were 55 for no loss. Meanwhile, Shikhar was rotating the strike well and got to 500 runs this season.
The first DC player to score 500 runs this season! 🙌

CRUNCH MIDDLE OVERS
Gabbar was stumped for 17 in the 8th over and our skipper walked out to the middle. We kept cruising and Shaw got to his fifty in just 31 deliveries. He could not have picked a better time to produce such a valuable knock.
Leading the chase with a sensational start 😍

In an intriguing phase in the eliminator, #SkipperShreyas got out when he tried to run the ball to third man in the 11th over followed by Shaw - who got a top edge.
Pant and Munro were out in the middle during the pressure situation and both decided to take calculative risks and struck a few meaty blows over the boundary line thus getting us closer to the total.
We required 52 runs in 36 balls.
THE SCARE
Just when Colin Munro had started to accelerate, Rashid Khan got him out on the first ball of the 15th over followed by Axar Patel for a duck too.
THE PANT SHOW
Rishabh Pant stepped up to the occasion absorbed the pressure brilliantly. With 52 runs required from the last five overs, he took the responsibility of hitting.
Our wicketkeeper-batsman hit Nabi for a six in the 16th over while Rutherford hit Bhuvneshwar for a maximum in the 17th over. Nail-biting, edge of the seat action had begun.
34 runs were required from the last three overs. Basil Thampi was brought into the attack and Pant gave him a thumping.
4,6,4,6 - Rishabh clobbered Thampi on the first four deliveries. We got 22 runs off the 18th over and roared back into the game.

Rishabh once again displayed his brilliance with the bat and deservedly won the super striker as well as the Man of the match award.
The hard-hitting Pant hit Kumar for a six before he too walked back to the hut. However, his blistering 49 off 21 deliveries had changed the game.
THE HEART IN MOUTH FINAL OVER
2 runs were required from the last 3 deliveries and Paul, Mishra went for a single but was given out for obstruction of the field. The good thing for us, however, was that Keemo Paul was on strike. Our young all-rounder smashed a four off the penultimate delivery and won the match for us.
There were just so many twists and turns - a nervy game in the end but we sailed through. Next up is the Qualifier 2 against CSK at the same venue and we can’t wait for it!
