DD vs MI: DD Look to End Season on a High

It was a clinical performance by DD against the Chennai Super Kings. It started off with CSK captain Mahendra Singh Dhoni asking us to bat after winning the toss. We lost Prithvi Shaw early in the innings, but Rishabh Pant (38) and Shreyas Iyer (19) came together to stitch a partnership of 54 runs, which laid the platform for the lower order to capitalize on. It was a valiant effort by both Harshal Patel and Vijay Shankar with the bat as they both struck 36 runs from 16 and 28 balls respectively. This helped us to set a competitive target of 163 runs.

Our bowlers have not had the best of campaigns so far in this year’s VIVO IPL, but the last game saw them come together as a unit and deliver. The effort and the hard work of the bowlers bore fruit and every bowler contributed to the team’s success. Amit Mishra and Trent Boult picked up two wickets each while Sandeep Lamichhane and Harshal Patel scalped one wicket each. All four had economy rates of less than 6 runs per over. In the end, our bowlers took us to the finish line as we won the match by 34 runs. Harshal Patel was awarded the Man of the Match award for his all-round show.

Our final clash of the season will be played at the Feroz Shah Kotla against the Mumbai Indians. MI won their previous encounter against the Kings XI Punjab by 2 wickets. Both the teams are coming off wins and have some quality players in their ranks. An interesting battle awaits the fans.

Key Battles

Sandeep Lamichhane vs Suryakumar Yadav

Ever since Sandeep Lamichhane made his debut for DD he has impressed everyone with the ball. In the two matches he has played so far, he has bowled at an economy rate of 5.75, which is excellent for a leg-spin bowler in T20s. He has been a vital component of DD’s bowling line-up. He will be up against MI’s top-scorer this season, Suryakumar Yadav, who has already amassed over 500 runs this season. It will be interesting to see who emerges victorious in this battle if Sandeep happens to be given the new ball yet again.

Rishabh Pant vs Jasprit Bumrah

Rishabh Pant is currently third on the list of highest run getters this season with 620 runs. He has been in the form of his life and has been scoring runs in almost every match. Pant has the ability to hit the ball to all the parts of the ground and has looked unstoppable this season. He recently became the only DD batsman to cross 600 runs in a single VIVO IPL season. Jasprit Bumrah is one of the world’s best limited-overs bowlers at the moment, and his approach while Pant is at the crease will be a good contest to watch.

Trump Card

The Leg Spin Duo

Sandeep Lamichhane and Amit Mishra’s spells can create a lot of damage for the opposition. They both have the ability to mix their stock deliveries up well with the googlies and flippers. Skipper Shreyas Iyer has been using his two leg spinners quite wisely. Both the spinners have been complementing each other well with some fine displays of leg-spin bowling.

MI have been resurgent in recent games, but they will have to win this one to make the Playoffs. DD have the opportunity to spoil MI’s party, and they’d love to take a win from their final game and end their season on a high.
