Apart from a rare blip in Bengaluru against South Africa, Team India displayed why they are one of the toughest sides to beat in home conditions in their previous assignment. While the T20I series was split evenly between the two sides and rain, the Test series turned out to be a one-sided affair, with Virat Kohli’s side hammering the Proteas 3-0.
India’s next challenge is their neighbour Bangladesh in three T20Is and two Tests as a part of the World Test Championship.
Gabbar Eyes Form, Iyer & Pant Head Middle-order
With Kohli given a break, Rohit Sharma is set to lead the side in the three limited overs encounters at Delhi, Rajkot and Nagpur. This will present a test for the middle order on how they manage the innings without the star batsman’s presence.
Shikhar Dhawan did not have the best of outings in the recently concluded Vijay Hazare Trophy, which will make Gabbar even more focussed on scoring big in the three games.
This series also presents a massive opportunity for Shreyas Iyer as the Delhi Capitals skipper did not get ample opportunity to showcase his talents against South Africa. The 24-year-old will be eager to cement his spot in the middle-order of India’s T20I set-up with the T20 World Cup less than a year away.
Rishabh Pant will also have similar goals in mind when he takes the field against the Tigers. The selectors have backed him as India’s limited overs wicketkeeper and the southpaw will be itching to back their decision by delivering the big runs come Sunday.
Day-Night Test Under Focus
While the first Test will be played at the Holkar Stadium in Indore from November 14, all eyes will be on the first ever Day-Night for the Indian side at the iconic Eden Gardens on November 22.
It will be interesting to see how the home side copes with the conditions of playing with the pink ball under lights. And with the ball’s tendency to offer more for the pacers under lights, India’s seam attack could prove to be even more lethal than they were against South Africa
A clean sweep for India in the series will take them to 360 points – with the next best sides being New Zealand and Sri Lanka on 60, putting them in pole position to finish as table toppers at the end of the league stage.
