Delhi Capitals have roped in leg spinner Mayank Markande, and completed a successful transfer by releasing West Indian all-rounder Sherfane Rutherford to Mumbai Indians. “I am delighted and honoured to be a part of the Delhi Capitals side,” 21 year old Markande, who is currently a part of the India A squad in the West Indies, said. “I am indeed looking forward to working with all the players, and making the most of learning from stalwarts of the game like Ricky Ponting and Sourav Ganguly.”
“We’d like to welcome Mayank to our team,” said Delhi Capitals CEO Dhiraj Malhotra. “We certainly see him as a bright future prospect. We’d like to wish Sherfane (Rutherford) all the very best for his career.”
Markande has played two seasons of the IPL with Mumbai Indians, during which he has taken 16 wickets from 17 games, that includes his best figures of 4/23 against Sunrisers Hyderabad in the 2018 season. He was also Punjab’s leading wicket taker in his debut Ranji season, with 29 scalps from 6 matches.
Delhi Capitals is the IPL franchise from Delhi, jointly owned by the JSW and GMR groups. The team finished third in the 2019 season.
