Leg Spinner Mayank Markande joins Delhi Capitals in trade

Delhi Capitals has successfully completed the season’s first player trade-off by getting on board talented leg spinner Mayank Markande, and releasing Caribbean all-rounder Sherfane Rutherford to the the Mumbai Indians.

The 20-year old Guyanese, who was spotted by Delhi Capitals during his 2018 season of the Caribbean Premier League, made his IPL debut this year.  Of the 7 matches that he played for Delhi Capitals this year, the most memorable was the one he played against Royal Challengers Bangalore, in which he chipped in with a handy 13-ball-28 and took AB de Villiers’ crucial wicket as well.

“Delhi Capitals is proud to have unearthed a talent like Sherfane (Rutherford), and brought him to the Indian Premier League, arguably the world’s biggest and best T20 cricket league,” said Delhi Capitals co-owner Parth Jindal. “We are indeed thankful to him for the time he spent with us. I would like to wish him all the very best for his cricketing career.”

21-year old Mayank Markande joins Delhi Capitals after proving his mettle in the IPL and in domestic cricket. “I’d like to welcome Mayank on board, on behalf of Delhi Capitals. He is an exciting talent, and one for the future for sure,” said Delhi Capitals Advisor Sourav Ganguly. “Quality leg spinners are an asset in the modern-day game, and I am sure when we pair him with our existing spinners, such as Mishra, it is going to make for a lethal combination.”

Markande is a part of the India A squad that is currently on tour in the West Indies. Please find attached a picture of his.
