DC boys ready to roar and change history tonight at Vizag!

AS THINGS STAND

We won 9 out of our 14 league stage matches to finish 3rd on the table. Our boys then defeated Sunrisers Hyderabad in the nail-biting eliminator.

Ricky Ponting's troops will now be squaring off against Chennai Super Kings in the decisive qualifier.

Dhoni and company also finished 2nd on the table after the league stage. They lost Qualifier 1 to MI but have another shot at redemption as they face us in Qualifier 2.

Our boys have a slight edge as they got well versed with the pitch at ACA–VDCA Cricket Stadium by playing the Eliminator here.

PREVIOUS ENCOUNTERS THIS SEASON

Chennai are the only team we are yet to beat this season. They defeated us at home by 6 wickets and then by 80 runs at Chepauk.

The boys are raring to avenge these two defeats. It is another do or die situation!

C) Approaching Milestones:

4: more sixes required by Shikhar Dhawan to complete 100 sixes in the IPL.

50: more runs required by Shreyas Iyer and Rishabh Pant each to complete 500 IPL runs this season.

66: more runs required by Shreyas Iyer to complete 1000 T20 runs this year.

THE GAME-CHANGERS

All our top batsmen have been game changers this season. Shikhar Dhawan and Prithvi Shaw have been excellent at the top and helped us get blistering starts. Shreyas Iyer and Rishabh Pant have taken the responsibility of seeing us through at the end. All of them will need to step up once again. They have enough experience and fans will be hoping they can rise to the occasion in the crucial fixture.

Amit Mishra was lethal on the pitch at Vizag. Our veteran spinner kept the runs in check in the middle overs and got the crucial wicket of well-set Guptill in the Eliminator. He will have to play a pivotal role against CSK as well.

MS Dhoni has been CSK's top run-getter this season. The opposition skipper has amassed 405 runs in 13 matches at an average of 135.00 and strike rate of 138.69. Keeping him in check will be the first thing on the minds of our bowlers. He was the protagonist when CSK last defeated us at Chennai.

Faf du Plessis has also been in great nick lately. His confidence level will be high after smashing 96 off 55 in CSK's last league match against Kings XI.

Imran Tahir has been brilliant with the ball for CSK. The protean has 23 wickets from 15 matches. He got four wickets against us last time around. Tahir can inflict some serious damage if he gets purchase on the pitch so we must be wary of him.

Final Thoughts

The DC boys will aim to etch their name in history by knocking out the 3-time Champions and heading into their first VIVO IPL Final!

Probable Starting XI:

Prithvi Shaw, Shikhar Dhawan, Shreyas Iyer (C), Rishabh Pant (WK), Colin Ingram, Sherfane Rutherford, Keemo Paul, Axar Patel, Amit Mishra, Trent Boult, Ishant Sharma.

*The above playing XI is just an educated judgement. The final playing XI always rests in the hands of the Team Management.
