The Capitals Face Off Against Knight Riders at the Halfway Mark of Their League Stage

Delhi Capitals vs Kolkata Knight Riders - A lot of memories from the recent past, most of them happy, flash across your mind in a jiffy, don’t they? An evergreen Super Over battle between KG and Dre Russ, Prithvi Shaw’s 99, the Shreyas Storm of 88* from 38 balls in a thriller at Sharjah, Shikhar Dhawan’s masterful 97*, Ishant Sharma’s first-baller against Joe Denly, Nitish Rana’s 81 and Varun Chakravarthy’s 5-fer… That’s quite a memorable list, isn’t it?

After 4 wins in our last five encounters against KKR, we meet them once more, and for the first time in IPL 2021 at the world’s largest cricket stadium.

Do We Have Another Thriller on the Cards?

Our history with the Knight Riders suggests that there is every chance we might be in for one, but can the fans take another heart-stopper back-to-back?

While the fans might still be suffering from the hangover of a thriller against RCB the other night, the DC stars have had to recover both mentally and physically in a very short span of time to get ready for the next encounter.

Their Assistant Coach Mohammad Kaif has full faith in his squad filled with match-winners from number 1 to number 11 on the sheet, and for very good reason.

“We have those players who can pass the test under pressure. Name anyone, they’re all match-winners...One loss doesn’t affect our environment. Everyone is happy, it’s a good team environment”

Stat Attack

Prithvi Shaw just became the 2nd youngest batsman to cross 1000 runs in the IPL in the previous match and has 1013 runs against his name so far. Almost 1/4th of those runs have come against one opposition - Kolkata Knight Riders.

Prithvi Shaw has scored 241 runs against KKR, and what makes that all the more impressive is the fact that these have come in just 4 innings at an average of 60.25 and a staggering Strike Rate of 163.95. Safe to say they’re his favourite opponents!

Faf du Plessis just went past Shikhar Dhawan Orange Cap list for IPL 2021, sitting on the top with 270 runs as opposed to Gabbar’s 265. Gabbar has been in top form this season and we fans would love to see him build a lead at the top, wouldn’t we? The kind of man he is, individual achievements like these won’t be among his highest priorities. The team will come first.

We asked our fans which player battle they’re most looking forward to in DC vs KKR and these are some of YOUR responses.

Which way is this battle (and the cricket ball) going to go? 🤔

The Umpire calls ‘PLAY!’ for Ball one 🤩

*Watches Gabba highlights to prepare for this battle* 😉

Key Battles

Prithvi Shaw vs Pat Cummins

This isn’t just a battle that very evidently fans are looking forward to, it is also one that can influence the outcome of the game. Prithvi Shaw has been top-drawer against these opponents in the past, but if he can take full advantage of his current form and tackle Pat Cummins once more, it will go a long way in helping DC get to a good position.

Rishabh Pant vs Sunil Narine

Rishabh Pant will most likely control the middle overs with the bat for DC, and Sunil Narine will control the middle overs with the ball for KKR. Who will dominate?

KG vs Dre Russ

Whichever way this battle goes, it’s going to be full of entertainment. We don’t need to tell you why this battle is going to be important in the context of the game, we just need to ask you to keep your popcorn ready.
