A 110 year old establishment, the Lahore Music House is situated in Delhi’s Daryaganj market, then known as Faiz Bazaar. The shop was started in 1948 after Harcharan Singh Sachdeva moved the shop from Anarkali Market in Lahore during Partition. Currently, the shop is run by his grandson Mr. Jaspal Singh, whose passion for music is evident despite any formal training. The shop mostly deals in Indian musical instruments, the main being tabla, sitar, and harmonium.
The shop has no dearth of famous customers, the most prominent being none other than The Beatles. The band visited the store in 1966, at the peak of their international fame. Begum Akhtar was also a regular visitor to the shop, regularly dropping her harmonium for repairs while she stayed in a hotel in Connaught Place. Other influential visitors included Ghulam Ali, Pt Ravi Shankar and Chatur Lal.
