Vocal for Local with OKCredit: Jolly’s Vintage Handicraft Store

From the biggest brands housed in grand malls to local treasures hidden in seemingly obscure spots, Delhi is a shopper’s paradise.

One such fascinating shopping destination is the furniture market in Lajpat Nagar. Stepping into the canopy-covered, narrow lanes of the market makes one feel as if they have entered the pages of some fantasy book.

One little shop that stands out in these crammed lanes is 'Vintage Handicraft', a charming handicraft and antique store run by Surinder Jolly for over 10 years. The shop is filled with unique décor pieces that can add flair to any room. The pieces range from retro telephones and Victorian wall clocks to colourful typewriters and old-school telescopes. The shops customers include actors, models, interior designers and international tourists.

Mr Jolly, started as a furniture manufacturer and trader in the late '90s but had to give it up due to difficult circumstances. However, this turned out to be a blessing in disguise for him as he found out that he can earn a livelihood from his passion for antiques.

Speaking on the impact of the lockdown Mr Jolly said, " Who has not been affected by the pandemic! We re-opened the shop after almost four months but since our main customers are tourists and foreigners we yet to get back on track. It will take some time to truly recover but we remain hopeful.”

For anybody who likes to own one-of-a-kind, off-beat items or just enjoys getting lost in a maze of quirky antiques, this is the place to be. Get #VocalforLocal and head to Mr Jolly’s Vintage Handicraft Store in Amar Colony.
