One Win Away From Creating History, Delhi Capitals Are Ready For Their Biggest Game Ever

This is it, isn’t it…56 days of an emotional roller-coaster of wins that made us jump with joy and defeats that saw us keep learning with every stride, we are now in the IPL 2020 Final and you bet we’re still pinching ourselves every now and then.

The setting couldn’t have been more perfect. Facing a city rivalled on the field and off the field, Delhi and Mumbai, two cities that always battle with each other historically, culturally and lifestyle, will face each other for the first time in the Final of arguably the world’s biggest T20 cricket tournament!

TIME FOR THE FINAL SHOWDOWN IN DUBAI

Although we’ve not defeated Mumbai Indians this season, the recent win against the Sunrisers (a team that had a double over us in the League stage) with some unique team strategies has definitely boosted the morale for Shreyas’ boys. With a change in the opening pair and the Protea pacer duo coming back in form, the Delhi Capitals has proved again to be the side capable of challenging the mighty Mumbai who has been a consistent in all departments throughout the tournament.

With Dubai witnessing light showers on Sunday, the pitch at the Dubai International Stadium will tend to favour the batsmen more. The Final could be yet another high scoring thriller with both teams boasting some of the most prolific T20 superstars! MI and DC have speedy pacers in the form of Kagiso Rabada, Anrich Nortje, Trent Boult and Jasprit Bumrah, who will collectively aim to apply brakes on the scoring rate. Although spinners would have a hard time gripping the ball, the experience of Ash-Axar combo will place an upper hand over the inexperienced spin unit of Mumbai Indians.

Stat-Attack

  • With a hard-fought win against the Sunrisers last Sunday, 25-year-old Shreyas Iyer will become the youngest captain to lead a team into the IPL finals on Tuesday. Moreover, he is just 40 runs behind Virender Sehwag to become the top run scorer for the Delhi franchise. The DC skipper reaching the milestone with a heroic win tomorrow will be no less than a historic moment for all Dilli fans out there!
  • Rishabh Pant who is yet to display his vintage explosive hitting this season, will aim to wreak havoc and complete his milestone of 3000 T20 runs. Currently the southpaw is just 38 runs away from the mark. Ajinkya Rahane who was responsible for a match winning fifty against RCB in the last league match is just 69 runs short of 4000 IPL runs. Jinks is also just four sixes away from the 100 T20 sixes.
  • R Ashwin whose experience has been a strong weapon for DC in the past matches, is just 2 wickets shy of becoming the third Indian to bowler to take 250 T20 wickets. The veteran spinner who had bagged a couple of big wickets that included the MI skipper Rohit Sharma in the last match, will look to continue his domination over the Mumbai batters tomorrow.

Ponting-Shreyas – A pair always winning our hearts!

Key Battles:

Ashwin vs MI Openers

Responsible for trapping the MI openers in the last game,  Ash will look to dominate again in the final. With an impressive economy rate, Ashwin will be key in adding pressure on the MI openers in powerplay.

Stoinis vs Bumrah-Boult

Stoin helped us with an explosive start against the SRH bowling unit and will look to unleash fire over the dangerous Bumrah-Boult combo. For a DC fan, the visual of Stoin hitting the lightning pacers out of the park, would be no less than a Superhero movie!
