Prithvi Shaw was bought by DD in the VIVO IPL auctions for Rs 1.2 crore. A story of grit and determination Prithvi Shaw has achieved so much at such a tender age that many aspiring players might have not achieved in their whole career. Growing up idolising Sachin Tendulkar, Shaw exhibits prodigious talent and his numbers are a true testament to this.
In the five matches that he has played for DD so far this season he has scored 205 runs at a staggering strike rate of 170.83 averaging 41. He has executed fearless stroke play to perfection right at the start of the innings which has laid the right platform for the middle order to get going. His cracking square cuts and eloquent drives on the off side speak of the enormous talent which this young lad possesses.

Shaw made his VIVO IPL debut with a quickfire 22 runs off just 10 deliveries against the Kings XI Punjab which showed the immense confidence he had in himself. He followed it up with a scintillating knock of 62 runs off just 44 deliveries against the Kolkata Knight Riders. Although he managed to get just nine runs against the Chennai Super Kings, he returned to form with scores of 47 and 65 against the Rajasthan Royals and Sunrisers Hyderabad respectively.
His knock against SRH was his most aggressive so far in this tournament. He took the attack to an opposition that is considered to possess the best bowling attack this season. He smashed the bowlers all over the park and was perfectly set for his first VIVO IPL century.

Though he missed out on a well-deserved century, Shaw’s innings drove a lot of attention and even the opposition players heaped praise on him. Senior SRH and India pacer Bhuvneshwar Kumar was also impressed with his effort. “He not only played well against us, but he did so in the last match too (47, vs Rajasthan Royals). He is a great talent and any opponent would want his wicket early. As an opponent myself today, I enjoyed his batting,” he had said.
Shaw has been hailed as a special talent ever since he scored 546 runs as a 14-year-old, for Rizvi Springfield School in Mumbai Harris Shield tournament in 2013. Last year on his Ranji Trophy debut he struck a century in the semifinals against Tamil Nadu and went on to score five centuries in seven first class games. At 17 years of age he also became the youngest to score a hundred on Duleep Trophy debut, eclipsing Tendulkar’s record. DD’s assistant coach Praveen Amre has said that Shaw's application in first-class cricket shows his maturity level.
