DC vs LSG in 50 Words
An aggressive batting display by QDK, KL, and Hooda helped the Super Giants set the tempo for a high-scoring battle. The Capitals took up the challenge and put in a resilient fight until the very last over, where Axar Bapu fell just short of bringing the game home.
A Lord 3-fer and a Rahul KLassic
In the scorching heat of Mumbai, we lost the toss and were asked to bowl first. We went in with an unchanged XI.
Mustafizur started with a tidy over, but the LSG openers were in the attacking mood against the likes of Sakariya and Lalit, ensuring they made the most out of the field restrictions with a flurry of boundaries.
The next bowler on the cards, Lord Shardul struck in his very first over dismissing the dangerous de Kock with a slower-one, full and wide, making him throw his bat at it while Lalit Yadav made no mistake at point.
At the end of the powerplay, Super Giants were 57 for one. Axar bowled another tight over, giving away just 7 off his two until then. But KL Rahul and Hooda shifted gears soon and brought up their 50 run stand in quick time in the 10th over.
It was Shardul again bringing in the 2nd breakthrough with a reflex catch to dismiss Deepak Hooda who had just brought up his 50. It didn’t stop the LSG batters as Stoinis joined the party right from the first ball hitting a boundary off the back-foot.
At the other end, KL Rahul had already brought up his 50 and looked to accelerate further, and he managed to do just that with a few fours and a couple of maximums. It took a stunner by Lalit Yadav at sweeper in the 19th over to dismiss in-form KL Rahul for 77, as Shardul scalped 3rd of his innings. Fizz bowled the final over and LSG finished the innings with a huge total of 195 on board.
A Valiant DC Fight
We didn’t get off to the ideal start in the chase as Shaw perished soon after his first boundary down the ground. Marsh was off the mark with a crispy cut shot for a boundary, while Warner, on the other end was dismissed in the very next over.
Despite the two wickets, Captain Pant started the proceedings with a counter attack, scoring three boundaries and a cracking 6 down the ground to make it 19 off Krunal’s first over.
From the other end, the Bison Mitch Marsh stood tall and deposited a couple of beautiful shots well into the stands.
The final over of the powerplay saw 17 runs being added, including a 97 meter monster from the Bison, as the Pant-Marsh duo brought up their 50 run partnership off just 16 deliveries.
Alas, the carnage came to an end when Marsh was dismissed for 37 off 20 balls. However, replays showed no spike on the Snicko. Unfortunate scenes for the Big Man and DC. The very next over Lalit Yadav was also dismissed off a Ravi Bishnoi googly bringing in the man in-form Rowman Powell to the crease.
A couple of silent overs followed, but Powell Power decided it was time to go for it in the 12th over and connected two big hits and a four off three consecutive Gowtham deliveries to reign back some momentum.
A jaffa by Mohsin Khan stopped short the extraordinary strokeplay of RP17 at 44, but the chase was still on as Powell was joined in by Bapu to get 76 off 42 deliveries. DC continued to try and attack, but accurate bowling meant that they only got the odd boundary away.
Mohsin Khan’s final over turned out to be a big setback for us as we lost two quick wickets of Powell and Shardul while trying to go big. The young left-arm speedster outdid Powell with a short ball before getting Shardul off a slower-one to complete his first 4-wicket haul in IPL.
With 36 needed off 12 and Bapu still on the crease, the fight was still on. We managed to get 15 off the penultimate over to give us a slimmer of hope in the final over. Unfortunately, it didn’t turn out to be a miracle night despite the valiant effort by Axar and Kuldeep.
