#5 – Shaw Makes History
Having led the India U-19 side to World Cup glory, Prithvi Shaw was already a household name coming into this VIVO IPL. He had to wait for his opportunity, but when he got it, he made sure he cemented his place in the side.
He showed glimpses of what he is capable of on debut with a quick 22 off 10 deliveries. In his very next game, he went on to score his maiden half-century. He made history in doing so, becoming the joint youngest to notch up a VIVO IPL fifty. The 68-run stand he shared with the skipper Shreyas Iyer was vital in DD getting to a massive total. The 18-year-old showed no nerves. On the contrary, he showed supreme confidence, even depositing someone of Mitchell Johnson’s stature into the stands a couple times. Shaw went on to make 62 off 44, and it’s an innings that he will remember for a long time. So will we.
Let's take a look back at our top 5 batting performances this season.

#4 – Absolute Power-Pant-i
Blitzkrieg. That must be the word that does justice to this innings from Rishabh Pant. He came in the eighth over with DD 74/2. When he got out in the 15th over, DD were 172/4. In less than 8 overs, he had helped us put up another 98 runs on the board. And this was through the supposedly “quiet” middle overs.
In all, he faced 29 balls, that’s one delivery less than five overs. He scored 69 from those 29 striking at 237.93 and smashing 7 fours and 5 sixes. The Royals had experienced Pant at his belligerent best.

#3 – The Skipper Arrives
What do you do on your VIVO IPL captaincy debut? Well, you score an unbeaten 93 off just 40 deliveries and propel your team to a match-winning total, of course!
Shreyas Iyer is a class act and one of the best young Indian players around. However, he isn’t associated with explosive batting, he is a touch player. More often than not, you will see him build crucial T20 innings and not bludgeon one. In this instance however, Iyer did not hold back one bit. He went for the kill. The last four overs saw DD add 76 runs to their total, with Shreyas Iyer scoring 28 runs off just the final over. Each of those 3 fours and 10 sixes that Iyer hit were a treat to watch. A captain’s knock if ever there was one!

#2 – Roy’s Masterclass
We went to the Wankhede with two losses from the first two games, and a win here was extremely important. Mumbai’s top order fired, and they finished with a formidable 194/7. This was Jason Roy’s first outing in VIVO IPL 2018. What followed was the stuff of legend.
It’s difficult to stop Roy when he gets going like he did that day. The MI bowlers were at his mercy, and he showed none. The boundaries kept flowing off his bat, and the target kept getting closer. 11 runs were required from the final six balls, to be bowled by Mustafizur. Roy got hold of the first couple deliveries, smashing the first over cover for four and the second over fine leg for six. With just one to get from the final four balls, it looked like the game was sealed. The Fizz however, added to the drama with three consecutive dots. Roy held his nerve on the final ball to take us to victory. That image of Roy’s passionate celebration with a jersey absolutely drenched with sweat will remain etched in our memories for a long time.

#1 – A Century of the Highest Order
The fact that Rishabh Pant features twice on this list and takes the top spot speaks volumes of the incredible season he has had. 684 runs with five fifties and a ton is a season to be proud of for Rishabh Pant. What stood out in this particular innings was his sheer audacity, to play the kind of shots he did.
Rishabh Pant walked in to bat with DD in some trouble at 21/2 after 4 overs. A conventional player would have gone about reviving the innings. But Pant isn’t conventional, is he? Far from it. He got going with three consecutive boundaries off Kaul in the sixth over, and never looked back. His unbeaten 128 from 63 deliveries became the highest score in the VIVO IPL by an Indian player and broke many more records. In the final over, he took innovation to the next level, ramping Bhuvneshwar Kumar over third man twice to collect two fours. The next three deliveries all went into the stands. He had made 26 runs off the final over bowled by one of the best death bowlers in T20 cricket today. It was jaw-dropping stuff. It was a shame that the bowlers couldn’t defend the target and Pant had to end up on the losing side despite the century. Nevertheless, that doesn’t take anything away from the quality of this epic knock.
It was a record-smashing and jaw-dropping century from @RishabPant777, of course it finds its way to the top of our best batting performances of VIVO @IPL 2018! 💯#DilDilli #Dhadkega pic.twitter.com/XiIT19hsgk
