VIVO IPL 2018: Match Preview – RR vs DD

We will lock horns with the returning Rajasthan Royals in our second game of the VIVO IPL 2018. With both the teams taking losses in their first matches, this game is of the utmost significance for both the teams as they look to gain some momentum. The match will be played at the Sawai Mansingh Stadium, Jaipur on the 11th of April.

Positives Going Into Game Two

Although we lost our opening encounter against the Kings XI Punjab by six wickets, the boys are in high spirits. Our first game marked Gambhir’s return to Delhi and he played a captain’s knock, as he so often does, by scoring 55 off 42 balls. Quick cameos from Rishabh Pant and Chris Morris, and economical bowling by Daniel Christian and Rahul Tewatia were few of the positives from the first game.

The team is geared up to take on the Rajasthan Royals, who also suffered a loss in their first game against the Sunrisers Hyderabad by nine wickets.

A Lot Depends on the Top-order

Going into the second game, DD’s batting line-up is bolstered with the arrival of The Big Show, Glenn Maxwell. He will be eager to make a mark for DD this season. The top-order needs to fire early in the innings and set a platform for the power hitters lower down the order. Once again, Gambhir’s form will be key for our success as he can play the role of the accumulator, giving the hitters like Colin Munro, Rishabh Pant, and Glenn Maxwell the freedom to take the bowlers on. The trouble arises when these impact players have to play against their natural instincts if early wickets are to fall. If that goes to plan against RR, we will have no trouble setting a big target, or chasing down one.

Essence of the Pace Trio

The pace trio of Trent Boult, Mohammed Shami and Chris Morris will have to step up and give us the early breakthroughs, which the spinners can capitalize on. It will be interesting to see if the DD management opts to make the trio a quartet by adding Rabada’s replacement Liam Plunkett into the mix.

Amit Mishra proved to be a little expensive in the first game but with the kind of experience he possesses, it won’t be an issue for him to bounce back. His four overs in the middle will certainly be very vital for us.

What to Expect

With 13 matches still to go, one loss isn’t going to deter Gambhir’s men. With the talent at our disposal, we can hit top gear real soon. We play the next four games away from home, and if we can get some wins under our belt, it will be really advantageous going into the latter half of the tournament where we play seven of our last nine games at home.

The DD squad is ready for the challenge at Jaipur. They’ve worked hard, and they’ll be raring to right the wrongs from the first game.
