We begin our 2019 IPL campaign with a convincing win over MI!

It was imperative for us to start IPL 2019 with a win to get the momentum going. And the boys made us proud.

Mumbai Indians won the toss and chose to field. We lost Shaw for 7 runs. Skipper Shreyas Iyer could not do much damage with the bat and was back in the hut after making 16 runs.

Our talented southpaws, Shikhar Dhawan and Colin Ingram steadied the ship for us. The explosive Ingram smashed 47 off 32 deliveries and hit 7 fours and a six in his knock. Meanwhile, Gabbar played a sensible knock of 43 off 36. He rotated the strike well and played his shots whenever he got the opportunity.

The talented Pant came in to bat at number 5. The youngster was at his devastating best as he unleashed his bag full of tricks. It was raining fours and sixes when Pant was on strike. Our hard-hitting wicketkeeper batsman smashed 7 sixes and 7 fours to score an unbeaten 78 off 27 deliveries. He scored runs at an astonishing strike rate of 288.88 to get to his 9th IPL fifty.

Our boys did exceptionally well to put together a total of 213/6 in the 20-overs quota. A massive 99 runs were scored in the last 6 overs.

Rohit Sharma and Quinton de Kock looked dangerous early on as MI stepped up their pursuit to chase the strong total. Our local boy Ishant however showed his masterclass and sent both of them back to the pavilion. Suryakumar Yadav was run-out from a razor-sharp fielding effort from skipper Shreyas.

Yuvraj Singh's fifty went in vain as our bowlers proved to be too hot to handle for Mumbai Indians. Keiron Pollard's 21 off 13 and Krunal Pandya's quickfire 32 off 15 could also not rescue the hosts. The three-time champions were eventually bundled out for 176 and we won the match by 37 runs.

Rishabh Pant's blinder was the highlight of the match. He also won the Player of the Match award for his memorable innings.

"When Rishabh was batting, we got to know how good the wicket is here. I was backing myself and my strengths. I was holding my nerve and not thinking too much about the result. Just think about the process and execute the ball that you want to bowl. That is what I have learned about myself. If you think about the result too much, then it becomes difficult to think about the process," Ishant Sharma shared his insights after the match.

Rishabh Pant, the man of the match, reflected - "It's been a great journey. I am trying to learn each and everyday of my cricketing career. It feels good when you score runs for your team. I always play according to the situation. This time when I went in to bat, I needed to increase the run rate for the team. I took my chances and got away. Especially in T20, you have to do something different. The bowlers try to cramp you for room - that is when I try to make my own room."

We will be locking horns with Chennai Super Kings on 26th March 2019 in our first home game, so be there and cheer your hearts out at the #QilaKotla!
