A Do-Or-Die Northern Derby Clash Awaits the Capitals

A dominant victory against the in-form Rajasthan Royals keeps the DC Men in Blue within touching distance of the top four. Up next, we take on the Kings from the North. The second Northern Derby of the season will take place at DY Patil Stadium as both the teams play a do-or-die match to stay in the qualifying race.

With an overpowering performance in their last games, both the teams will be looking to continue the momentum. Riding on Marsh’s 89 in a 144-run stand with Warner, the DC Tigers registered a comprehensive win in the last game.

Sakariya, Marsh and Nortje also displayed some good skills with the ball with 2-fers each to keep the score under control. It was a team performance that left Coach Punter impressed too.

That was an excellent game of cricket. A game of cricket that I'm really proud that you are able to stand up and play tonight on the back of our worst performance a couple of days ago. To rebound and respond the way that you all did today was credit to every single one of you.”

Of Friends and Rivals

The last time Delhi took on Punjab, it was a low scoring match as our bowlers starred with a clinical group effort to bundle out the Punjab side for 115. The swashbuckling opening duo of Shaw and Warner then went all in as we chased down the total in just 10.3 overs with both of them scoring 41 and 60* respectively.

We managed to keep our friends and old teammates Dhawan and KG quiet in the previous game. If we manage to do so in this game as well, it will go a long way in securing the result we need considering both of them are absolute match-winners on their day. Rest assured, these friends and rivals on both sides will give it their all.

Stat Attack

With another 400+ run season, Warner became the first overseas player and 4th overall to do so in 8 or more seasons of the IPL. Davey has been exceptional with the bat as he is also the leading run scorer for DC this season. With 5 half-centuries already, providing solid starts has become a habit for him. 25 runs more and Warner will have the record of most runs against one team in IPL.

Scoring at the strike rate of 156, Captain Pant has been destructive in his quick-fire cameos this season, and with this form he is not far away from a big score as the as we get into the final stages of the league. Fans will hope it comes in this crucial northern derby!

One can say that Lord Shardul loves playing against the Punjab team as his records suggest that he has picked 13 wickets in 8 innings against them, making him a player to watch out for in the Northern Derby.

Key Battles

Warner vs Rabada

In the past encounters, Warner has scored all around the park against Rabada at a strike rate of 174.5, And the current form of both the players, makes it a significant new-ball battle to watch out for.

Gabbar vs Nortje

Another special new ball battle, this time between former teammates. Nortje’s pace will be tested against Gabbar in this key battle at the top of the order.

Livingstone vs Bapu

It will be interesting to see how Livingstone takes on Bapu this time as he struggled to get the better of the left-arm orthodox in their last clash, with Axar deceiving him cleverly to get him stumped. On the other side, Bapu is just one wicket away from 100 IPL wickets which he will be aiming to attain in tonight’s clash.

It's our third consecutive game at the DY Patil and the boys look confident as ever. The DC Men in Blue have a ‘W’ against PBKS in the first leg. Will they make it a double? There’s only one way to find out!
