A Dream TATA WPL Journey With A Near-Perfect Conclusion for DC

History was penned with the announcement of the inaugural edition of the TATA Women’s Premier League that stirred the world of sports and we were honoured to be a part of it.

Wishes started to pour in soon after and TATA WPL felt equal parts surreal and exciting.

As the auction approached, we looked forward to global stalwarts donning the DC blue and red. Indeed, a date to remember for years to come.

Meanwhile, TATA WPL locked two venues for the much-anticipated tournament.

Delhi Capitals Assembled:

Our Head Coach Jonathan Batty and the rest of the support staff were ready to make this a historic season.

Jemimah Rodrigues, our first-ever TATA WPL pick, set the ball rolling.

Steadily, we formed a dream team as we looped in some of the best players around the world...

…which then turned into an 18-member squad!

Tara Norris, the only associate nation player to be a part of the TATA WPL shared a heartfelt message expressing her gratitude for being a part of our side.

The dates were set and we couldn’t wait to get underway

The First Of Everything:

Coach Batty’s first speech to our girls set the stage with the right touch of motivation and inspiration.

Our first training session set the perfect tone for what our season could look like.

The Meg-a star was chosen to lead us in this inaugural season, and she didn’t disappoint.

Symbolising courage in our DC threads, our tigresses revealed the season kits at a Mega Event accompanied by the talented girls from our DC Academy.

Starting TATA WPL On A High Note:

Ahead of our first fixture, the experienced duo of Meg Lanning and Marizanne Kapp aptly described the energy in our DC den.

We started our campaign on a high, humbling the Smriti-led Royal Challengers Bangalore side by 60 runs.

Openers Meg Lanning and Shafali Verma gave us a glimpse of what to expect with a 162-run opening stand which is the highest partnership in TATA WPL!

Tara Norris, shined with the ball and etched her name in the TATA WPL history books picking up the first-ever 5-for of the tournament.

Exceptional Performances:

Another match, another 200+ run score and we couldn’t be happier.

Jess Jonassen’s electrifying 42 off 20 balls and 3/43 stole the show and Delhi Capitals' heart.

One of the reasons behind our success story was our outstanding efforts in the outfield.

Radha Yadav set the bar high with her breathtaking catch.

While Jemimah’s blinder took it a notch higher.

The Road to the Final:

Our first defeat of the tournament against Mumbai Indians was nothing more than a wake-up call according to our Head Coach Jonathan Batty and we had no reason to panic.

Staying true to our fighting spirit, Kapp recorded TATA WPL’s best bowling figures when she ended with figures of 5/15 against the Gujarat Giants.

While Shikha Pandey’s lent the perfect support with her 3-for restricting our opposition to 105!

Shafali entered and blew away the opposition with a 28-ball 76* leading us to only the second 10-wicket victory in TATA WPL this season.

Shikha Pandey's second 3 wicket haul of the season against RCB kept our winning run going.

After a heart-wrenching loss against Gujarat, we bounced back versus the Mumbai Indians owing to a whirlwind Alice Capsey innings.

Royal Challengers Bangalore's victory against UP Warriorz confirmed our spot in the playoffs and we were graced with a great taufa.

Winning our last league match against the UP Warriorz ensured us a top spot in the league stage and a spot in the final.

The D-Day

Preparations were in full swing as we were one step away from glory.

We played our hearts out in the first-ever TATA WPL final.

However, Mumbai Indians just tipped us to win the coveted title.

Unforgettable Memories:

Our real strength, our fans turned out in huge numbers to support us throughout our journey.

Skipper Meg Lanning lost the orange cap once in the tournament but quickly got it back.

And the rest as they say is HISTORY.

Looking back on the first TATA WPL season, we learnt some important lessons while never giving up and believing in each other.

Till then, ROAR MACHA.
