Great wins across the last weekend, a day off to chill and two days of gearing up for the next game. There can’t be a more ideal week for the Capitals as they are all geared up to take Steve Smith’s boys in pink at the Sharjah Stadium tomorrow. Delhi Capitals who had already secured a win against KKR at Sharjah, will look to continue the momentum against Rajasthan Royals who have a 100% record there.
All eyes on bowling with short boundaries
Sharjah Cricket Stadium, a venue with short boundaries and batting friendly conditions has always produced high-scoring games in the past. From our Skipper Shreyas’ carnage against KKR here to RR’s Rahul Tewatia and his exquisite cameo, the stage is set again for a possible 200+ score in both the innings. With power-hitters in both sides, the side with a better bowling strategy is bound to take the slice of the winning cake.
We will look to have an upper hand in the clash with our bowling department being in perfect form. While our pacers were ruthless and responsible for frequent wicket strikes, our spinners were responsible to keep the oppositions’ run rate at bay.
Stat Attack
Our Delhi southpaws Rishabh Pant and Shikhar Dhawan are just a big hit away from completing 100 IPL sixes. Moreover, Dhawan who played a good innings during our run chase in the last encounter against Rajasthan Royals in April 2019, is just one fifty away from equaling Suresh Raina’s record for the most IPL fifties by an Indian. Rishabh Pant who took Kohli’s catch behind the stumps against RCB, is just 2 dismissals away from hitting the milestone of 50 dismissals as a wicketkeeper.
Despite Amit Mishra missing out of the entire IPL, our spin department has always helped tighten the opposition run-rate. Ashwin who made a comeback from his shoulder injury with an impressive economy of 6.5, was responsible in dismissing the in-form batsman Devdutt Padikkal in the last clash against RCB. Axar Patel who has just given 64 runs in his last 14 overs bowled in IPL has been responsible for four crucial scalps as well.
Our pace department led by the Protea duo is nothing but a perfect example of fast bowling in T20s.With economies of 6 and 5.5 in the last match, purple cap holder Kagiso Rabada and his bowling partner, Anrich Nortje shared six wickets between them in the last match against the Royal Challengers. Harshal Patel who was in fine form against KKR at Sharjah, will look to repeat his heroics at the same venue to complete his milestone of 100 T20 wickets. He is just 3 wickets shy of the mark.

.@KagisoRabada25's start this season is great reward for his work, one of the best T20 bowlers in the world. Holding RCB to 137 given their power was pleasing, building off the work of our batsmen who set things up. Couple of days now to reset before looking ahead to Rajasthan. https://t.co/h3T9TweTXk

May your words come true 😎
Russell, Rabada, Nortje all are examples of good hard length bowling in the death overs. Not necessary to bowl yorkers every time. #IPL2020

And that’s crucial at Sharjah!
Key Battles
Steve Smith vs the Protea pacers
Considered as one of the modern greats of the game, Steve Smith who has been a victim of short of good length ball just outside off in the past, will face a tough challenge from the raw pace of the Protea duo Kagiso Rabada and Anrich Nortje. It would be interesting to see how the pacers implement their strategy against the RR skipper.
Rishabh Pant vs Jofra Archer
Rishabh Pant will aim to repeat his 2018 Kotla heroics against RR when he scored 69 of 29 balls that included smashing Archer despite of him attempting to cramp the explosive wicket keeper batsman for room. The Pant-Archer battle that will resume tomorrow in a more batting friendly pitch at Sharjah will be a treat for all cricket lovers.
Jos Buttler vs DC spinners
England’s explosive T20 specialist who is a great player of spin will look to go big from the start at Sharjah against the Capitals’ spin attack. On the other hand, DC spinners who were instrumental in applying pressure on KKR’s batting line-up, will look to give a tough time to the wicketkeeper batsman.
