After a thumping win against the Knight Riders, the DC men in blue look to continue the winning momentum at the Wankhede by equalling the record against the in-from SuperGiants.
In the previous encounter against LSG, our DC Tigers fell short in a low-scoring clash. We had some positives with Shaw scoring a quickfire 50, alas QDK's 80-run knock while chasing made sure of a win for them.
But after the last victory, Axar Bapu believes that the confidence in the dug-out is very high and being consistent in the upcoming games can help them qualify for the knockouts:
“It was an important win as we have been winning and losing but the team vibe and morale gets boosted up when you win like this from a tough situation, easing the pressure on the other players as well to perform freely”
A Star-Studded Clash with Some Familiar Foes
With the Warner-Shaw duo providing electrifying starts at top of the order and now Powell and Bapu finishing things off in style, our batting has been firing on all cylinders making it a fiery face off with the likes of Avesh, Holder and Bishnoi.
On the other hand, the prowess of our bowlers, particularly Mustafizur Rahman in the powerplay and at the death, and our spinners Kuldeep Yadav and Axar Patel through the middle overs will be vital in ensuring that batters like KL Rahul, de Kock and Marcus Stoinis don’t run away with the game at any stage.
The game will also see our DC stars face former teammates Avesh Khan and Marcus Stoinis, with the latter playing against Delhi for the first time since 2019 having missed the previous encounter. It will be interesting to see how these friends, former teammates and now familiar foes battle against each other.
Stat Attack
With 17 wickets in 8 innings, Kuldeep Yadav is well and truly in the race of the Purple Cap. After a second 4-wicket haul against Knight Riders, he’s gone up to the second position.
David Warner has been exceptional at the top of the order. With 261 runs in 6 innings including 3 back-to-back half-centuries, he has become the highest run scorer for his side while averaging 52. He can achieve another milestone in this game, being just 2 sixes away from 400 T20 sixes.
The left-arm seamer from Bangladesh has been right on the money with his yorkers and slower-ones in the death. Last game saw a fantastic display of his extraordinary skills as he scalped 3 crucial wickets in the final over while giving away only 2 runs. One more wicket and he will achieve the feat of 250 T20 wickets.
Key Battles
Bapu vs KL
With only 1 wicket to go for the milestone of 100 IPL wickets, Bapu will be targeting the big wicket of KL Rahul. He has been dismissed by Axar twice in 21 balls scoring only 16 runs. KL being in his best form, it will be interesting to see how our ace left-arm spinner manages to keep him contained.
Powell vs Avesh
With Powell back in form, how the death overs go will be very crucial as he will be up against fellow Windies star Jason Holder. If Powell is at the top of his game, this will make for a fiery battle at the death.
Pant vs Avesh
Rishabh Pant and Avesh Khan go way back. The duo played together as teenagers on the world stage at the 2016 U-19 World Cup and made a good name for themselves in their respective disciplines. Then, the two played together for many years at Delhi. And now, these long-time friends will be up against each other in the middle and death overs, holding the key for their respective sides. Get the popcorn ready, this battle is going to be fun to watch.
