DD vs CSK: The Penultimate Clash

The previous game against the Royal Challengers Bangalore ended in defeat. But, the performances of two teenagers Abhishek Sharma and Sandeep Lamichhane entertained the Kotla crowd to the fullest. Abhishek with the bat was the persona of confidence and Sandeep with the ball was the persona of grit. It was a treat to watch these two prodigies come out with flying colours on debut.

In the batting department, Rishabh Pant was at his usual flamboyant best as he scored 61 off 34 balls. Towards the end of our innings, Abhishek Sharma’s lusty blows helped us set a target of 182 for RCB. Sharma remained not out on 46 runs off 19 balls which included three fours and four sixes.

When we came out to defend, skipper Shreyas Iyer’s ploy to give the first over of the innings to debutant Sandeep Lamichhane paid rich dividends. He kept things tight and picked up the wicket of Parthiv Patel in his second over. Lamichhane impressed everyone with his wrist spin and returned with figures of 4-0-25-1. Towards the latter part of the innings, our bowlers lost their way and we took a 5-wicket loss. Nevertheless, the show that the debutants put up received praise from all corners.

We play our penultimate match of the season against the Chennai Super Kings and this reverse fixture will take place at the Feroz Shah Kotla, Delhi. CSK are coming off a win from their previous match against Sunrisers Hyderabad. DD will look to make the most of their home advantage and go for a win against the in-form men in yellow. In that endeavor, performing as a unit will be paramount. However, the individual performances have been top-notch for DD this season and these key players will look to contribute to the best of their abilities yet again.

Key Players

Rishabh Pant

Rishabh Pant has become a household name this season. He has been in phenomenal touch. In 12 matches that he has played so far, Pant has scored 582 runs at an average of 52.90 and a strike rate of 179.62. The highlight of his campaign was the 128 not out against Sunrisers Hyderabad at the Feroz Shah Kotla. With that knock he also broke the record for the highest individual score by an Indian in the VIVO IPL. He’s got the ability to change the course of the game at any point, and the fans would love for him to come good again, against the Chennai Super Kings.

Sandeep Lamichhane

The Pride of Nepal is a breath of fresh air in this year’s VIVO IPL. The teenager has truckloads of potential. Not a lot of wrist spinners can take the challenge of bowling with the new ball and do it with aplomb. The way he did it on debut is a true testament to his talent.

If the captain decides to throw the new ball to him again, his four overs will be very crucial against the likes of Ambati Rayudu and Shane Watson.

Shreyas Iyer

Skipper Shreyas Iyer provides the much-needed stability in the middle order. The India A captain has struck four fifties for DD this season and is growing stronger in his leadership skills day by day. He has been particularly good at home and boasts of a healthy average of 58.75 at a strike rate of 144.17. Three out of his four fifties this season have come at the Kotla with a highest score of 93*. Iyer has been striking the ball well, and his presence in the team both as a batsman and as a leader is vital.

Amit Mishra

Mishra has delivered for the team in crunch situations. He has an economy rate of 7.75 this season which is good considering the stages of the game in which he has been bowling. Mishra is a witty bowler who can mix it up well with his flippers and googlies. He has been around for long, and his experience will come in handy against the likes of Suresh Raina and Mahendra Singh Dhoni in the middle overs.

DD have had a much-needed break of five days and will be fresh going into tomorrow's game. With two games to go, the squad will be looking to take wins from both of them and end the season on a high.
