A Rejuvenated KKR lies ahead of DC’s Back-to-Back Finals Appearance

The Delhi Capitals will take the field with a point to prove in Sharjah. After losing Qualifier 1 agonizingly to the MS Dhoni led CSK, the DC Men in Blue will look forward to answering their doubters on the field when they take on the Kolkata Knight Riders in Qualifier 2.

It is 1-1 when it comes to our record against KKR this season. While we beat them comfortably in the India leg of IPL 2021, they came back strongly in UAE as they held their nerves to win by 3 wickets.

Despite the loss against CSK, there were many positives from the night, including Prithvi Shaw’s electric 60 that got us off to a flier. The man himself spoke to us after Qualifier 1 and emphasized the importance of sticking together as a team in times like these.

“I think the main thing is to back each other in this moment. That if a player, he has not done really well, I think you should back that guy. And this loss is for everyone. It’s not because of a single player. You know as a team, we take it as a team. If we win or lose, we take it as a team. So yes, we’ll take this loss and we’ll you know try and come back stronger after this.”

Time for a Spectacle in Sharjah

Chasing has been the way to go for both DC and Sharjah in the UAE leg of IPL 2021. Rishabh Pant will hope the toss falls his way, with chasing teams winning 5 out of the 7 games in Sharjah this season.

Spin will again be the key on the slow surface. Our spin duo of Bapu and Ash have kept things tight in UAE, and expect them to strangle the opposition if conditions turn out to be in their favour.

The Gabbar-Shaw show is known for its blockbuster starts, and how our openers fare will gain even more importance in Sharjah. Teams that have scored more runs in the powerplay have won eight out of the nine games in Sharjah this season, so flying out of the blocks in classic Shikhar-Prithvi style is of prime importance.

The hallmark of this side is how they respond to adversity. Come Wednesday, all eyes will once again be on them to see what tricks they unleash to make sure the titanic Sharjah clash is a spectacle to remember.

Stat Attack

Hettie has been a breath of fresh air this season, putting his hand up numerous times to play some handy knocks down the order. Since moving to DC in 2020, he has amassed 410 runs in 23 innings at a strike rate of 158.30, which is the 3rd best strike rate by DC batsman in IPL with min. 125 balls faced.

Our DC Men in Blue will be more than happy to play Qualifier 2 in Sharjah. The ground has been a happy hunting ground for us, and our win percentage of 71.43 is the joint best amongst all IPL teams at the venue.

Gabbar is at the top of the IPL charts when it comes to smacking fours, with Shikhar having 653 fours to his name. But 2 more sixes in Sharjah will see him achieve 200 maximums in T20 cricket.

Key Battles

The Master vs Tripathi

Rahul Tripathi has been a big reason behind KKR’s batting prowess this season, with the batter the top scorer for his franchise with 383 runs. However, he has been susceptible to spin this season, getting dismissed four times to it in UAE. Having already dismissed him once this season, Ravichandran “The Master” Ashwin will look to do the same on Wednesday.

Spiderpanti vs Narine

Rishabh Pant was in full flow last game, registering an unbeaten half-century. He will look to keep the momentum going, and the match-up between our captain and Sunil Narine, who has been in top form in UAE will be one to watch.

Shaw vs Lockie

Another batsman who got all DC fans off their seats with some sublime shots was Prithvi Shaw. The pocket dynamo relishes facing KKR, and the battle between him and Lockie Ferguson’s express pace would be a crucial one in deciding which team comes out on top in the powerplay.
