Avesh Khan lauds Ishant Sharma’s guidance during time together at Delhi Capitals

Our dazzling fast bowler Avesh Khan has thanked his team-mate Ishant Sharma for tips and guidance while playing together for the Delhi Capitals in the Indian Premier League.

Avesh Khan, who was named as a standby player for Team India’s tour to England, expressed gratitude for the senior bowler’s advice, especially for the red-ball format.

“I had a lot of talk with Ishant (Sharma) bhai regarding red-ball cricket,” Avesh Khan told SportsAdda. “There was not much red-ball cricket happening due to the domestic season being cancelled so now I can implement that in my bowling in England.

“I am very close to Ishant bhai particularly since this is my third year with him at Delhi and I really enjoy his company.”

From travelling as a net bowler for India in South Africa and the 2019 ICC World Cup, the 25-year-old Avesh Khan can now get a chance to make his Test debut in England.

And when the time comes, the seamer from Indore is ready to put to use the advice of Ishant Sharma.

“Ishant bhai also taught me about his good lengths and how to set the batsmen up. These are the things that I will try to implement in the nets in the England series,” the right-armer said.

Along with the support of Ishant Sharma, Avesh Khan also praised the role of our captain Rishabh Pant during his early days with the team.

“Pant has been very supportive in this case. Every player is nervous before batting or bowling the first ball. Rishabh told me to control the nervousness and bowl bindaas (fearlessly) and not worry about the runs. Run khaane ka tarika sahi hona chaiye (concede runs in the proper manner).

“He has backed me a lot this year and I also responded by bowling well.”

Avesh Khan performed exceptionally during IPL 2021, scalping 14 wickets - joint second-highest - in eight innings at a healthy economy of 7.70 and DC were leading the points table with six wins out of eight before the tournament was halted.

Currently, Avesh Khan is gearing up for the World Test Championship (WTC) final against New Zealand in England, along with six other DC players - Ajinkya Rahane, Rishabh Pant, Ishant Sharma, Umesh Yadav, Axar Patel and Ravichandran Ashwin.
