CSK vs DC | Defeat at Chepauk Despite Axar and Marsh’s Valiant Efforts

Axar Patel and Mitchell Marsh emerged as our silver linings once again, as we fell to a 27-run defeat against Chennai Super Kings on the road.

Mitchell Marsh scalped thrice while Axar Patel took two wickets and also contributed 21 runs in the match at MA Chidambaram Stadium.

MS Dhoni called the toss correctly and asked us to field first.

The home team was off to a good start but Khaleel Ahmed kept the run rate in check, giving just nine off his first two overs.

Bapu, The Breakthrough Man:

Axar Patel was brought into the attack in the fifth over to stop Chennai from building momentum, and the move paid off immediately.

Bapu got Devon Conway leg before wicket to give us our first wicket and followed it up with another  scalp off the first delivery in his second over, getting Ruturaj Gaikwad caught at long off by Aman Khan.

Yadav Bros Take Charge:

After Axar Patel, it was Kuldeep Yadav and Lalit Yadav’s turn to take advantage of the slow track in Chepauk.

While Kuldeep Yadav got the better of Moeen Ali with a sharp turning delivery, Lalit Yadav took a brilliant diving catch off his own bowling to send back Ajinkya Rahane, leaving CSK at 77/4 after over 11 overs.

Dhoni Finishes Off In Style:

Shivam Dube and Ambati Rayudu brought life back into the home crowd, scoring 25 and 23 runs, respectively. Ravindra Jadeja also chipped in with a brisk 21 before Mitchell Marsh trapped him with a slow-leg cutter.

It was MS Dhoni’s quickfire 20 off nine, which took CSK to 167/8 in their 20 overs.

Tough Start To The Chase:

Our chase got off to a turbulent start as both out openers, David Warner and Phil Salt, fell to Deepak Chahar in the first and third overs, respectively.

Later, a mix-up between Mitchell Marsh and Manish Pandey in the middle cost the Aussie his wicket and left us at 25/3 in 3.1 overs.

Rossouw-Pandey Fight Back:

The left-right duo of Rilee Rossouw and Manish Pandey carefully steadied the ship for us, taking us to 65/3 in 10 overs.

CSK’s impact player Matheesha Pathirana, however, scalped Pandey in the 13th over, who added 27 runs on the board.

Rossouw and Bapu did their bit in getting us over the line but eventually fell short.

Brief Scores: Chennai Super Kings - 167/8 (20), Shivam Dube 25 (12), Ruturaj Gaikwad 24 (18); Mitchell Marsh - 3/18, Axar Patel 2/27 defeated Delhi Capitals - 140/8 (20), Rilee Rossouw 35 (37), Manish Pandey 27 (29); Matheesha Pathirana 3/37, Deepak Chahar 2/28 by 27 runs.
