DC Corporate Cup 2019: Week 3 Round-Up

The third weekend of the DC Corporate Cup 2019 saw five fixtures producing an exciting two days of T20 cricket.

The lone game on Saturday (October 19) saw EY take on PolicyBazaar.com on Ground 1 and it was the former that emerged victorious in a close encounter. Winning the toss, EY opted to bat first and posted a competitive 170 for 8 in 20 overs, with V. Srinivas powering the innings with his 88 runs off 63 balls. PolicyBazaar.com looked on-course for the target but eventually the run-chase ran out of steam, finishing on 156 for 9 at the end of their quota of overs.

The morning session on Sunday (October 20) saw Muthoot taking on Sapient in Group B and GMR going up against MetLife in Group A.

Sapient yet again proved to be too much to handle for the opposition as they posted a massive 207 for 6 after opting to bat first. Chandeep Singh was the top scorer, scoring an unbeaten 85 off 53 balls. Muthoot never looked in a position to threaten the target and were eventually bowled out for 77 in 14.5 overs, ensuring Sapient remain at the top in Group B.

In the fixture on Ground 2, MetLife’s brave decision to bowl first paid dividends as they managed to keep GMR’s score down to 157 for 5. Despite being a competitive target, MetLife’s batting prowess was too much for GMR to handle in the day as they chased down the target in just 16.5 overs. Virendra Kumar’s 81 off 49 balls in the top order ensured that MetLife doubled their points tally and stayed alive in the competition.

The evening fixtures produced two one-sided games, with Accenture and AMEX GBT registering commanding wins.

Khabri Audio opted to bat first with the aim of posting a competitive score. But they were stunned by the opposition bowling and were bundled out for just 60, with Abhishek Parashar picking up three wickets for just 13 runs in his spell. The run-chase lasted just four overs as Amex GBT notched up the target losing just one wicket and solidifying their spot as Group A leaders.

Royal Stag did not fair any better on Ground 2 as they were bowled out for 95 in 17.3 overs. Ravi Dutt picked up his second player of the match award, taking 5 for 11 in his spell. Accenture ran down the target in 11.2 overs, keeping them within striking chance of qualifying for the knockouts.
