DC v RCB | A Dominant Win at Qila Kotla To Grab Important Points

Continuing our winning form from Ahmedabad, we returned home to Qila Kotla to secure a crucial victory against Royal Challengers Bangalore to keep our play-offs hopes alive.

Phil Salt (87 off 45), Rilee Rossouw (35 off 22), David Warner (22 off 14) and Mitchell Marsh (26 off 17) unleashed fireworks and powered the chase for the 182-run target set by the visitors at Qila Kotla.

We eventually reached home with seven wickets and 20 balls to spare. In the process, we collected two points that took us to the ninth spot in the table, with 8 points in our bag.

Earlier, Skipper David Warner lost the toss and we were put to bowl first. Mukesh Kumar came in for Anrich Nortje and Mitchell Marsh also found his place back in the Starting XI.

Bapu puts a leash on the run rate:

Virat Kohli and Faf du Plessis got RCB to a good start but Axar Patel with his tight line and lengths did not let the duo run away in the first 10 overs. Bapu bowled all his three overs of the day inside the first 10 overs and finished with the figures of 0/17, amidst the roars of a packed Qila Kotla.

Marsh provides a double blow:

RCB were off 82 for no loss in 10 overs but Mitchell Marsh outfoxed a set Faf du Plessis and then Glenn Maxwell with his variations to dent the RCB top order in the 11th over.

Though Bapu was the most economical on the day, Marsh was the most successful with the figures of 2/21 in his 3 overs.

Brilliant bowling at the death:

RCB looked set to cross 200 after Kohli’s sixth fifty of the season, and 50th IPL half-century, but Mukesh Kumar’s penultimate over of the innings gave away just six runs.

Khaleel Ahmed bowled the final over conceding just nine and also picking up the wicket of experienced Dinesh Karthik.

Beast mode Salt:

Needing over nine runs per over, the intentions were clear from the start.

Skipper Warner and Phil Salt helped us reach 70/1 in the powerplay - the best so far by us this season.

Marsh takes charge

The loss of our skipper’s wicket did not hamper our spirits as Mitch Marsh picked up from where Warner left off. There was no stopping Salt at the other end.

Riled up Rossouw

The brisk start gave our batters freedom to pace their innings. Rilee Rossouw was too a man on a mission.

Despite Salt’s dismissal after scoring a bewildering 87 off 45, the South African continued the attack unabashedly, scoring 35 off 22 deliveries.

Rossouw finished off the match on the fourth ball of the 17th over with a six, thus securing our fourth win in five matches.

Brief Scores:

Delhi Capitals - 187/3 (16.4 overs), Phil Salt 87 (45), Rilee Rossouw 35 (22), Josh Hazlewood 1/29 (3) beat Royal Challengers Bangalore - 181/4, Virat Kohli 55 (46), Mahipal Lomror 54* (29), Mitchell Marsh 2/21 (3) by seven wickets.
