DC vs CSK | Delhi Capitals claimed their first win of the campaign

Delhi Capitals gave their fans a moment to rejoice after clinching their first win of IPL 2024 against the table toppers, Chennai Super Kings (CSK) in Vizag by 20 runs.

We won the toss in our first home game of the season and Captain, Rishabh Pant elected to bat first. We made two changes in our XI from the last game, Kuldeep Yadav had a niggle and was replaced by Ishant Sharma while Ricky Bhui made way for Prithvi Shaw.

In our third game of the campaign, our new opening pair of the season but an O.G. pair in itself,, David Warner and Prithvi Shaw gave us a steady start. After getting their eyes in, they started to accelerate the scoring rate and ended up amassing 62 runs in the Powerplay, our highest this season.

The opening stand was broken by Mustafizur when the score was 93 at the halfway stage. He dismissed David Warner after the latter completed his fifty in the 10th over. Prithvi Shaw followed Warner to the pavilion after scoring a brilliant 43 in the next over.

Mitchell Marsh and Rishabh Pant looked to continue the momentum and keep the scoreboard moving before Pathirana clinched two quick wickets of Marsh and Stubbs in the 15th over, both deliveries clearly being peach.

However, it didn’t help CSK to stop the flow of runs as our skipper, Rishabh Pant went all guns blazing against the Super Kings’ bowlers.

With a knock full of solidity, he produced a fifty after 465 days.

He even completed the milestone of 200 sixes during his innings.

Pant fell prey to Pathirana in the penultimate over but not before a dominating effort from our batters that helped us to put a mammoth total of 191/5 at the end of the innings.

Perfect start with the ball:

Khaleel started the proceedings with the ball and gave us a brilliant start with the ball and claimed the big wicket of the Super Kings’ captain, Ruturaj Gaikwad in the first over.

Khaleel was firing on all cylinders and got rid of the other opener, Rachin Ravindra in his second over and forced the table toppers Chennai Super Kings to play with a defensive mindset.

The required rate kept rising and it turned out to be an effective Powerplay for us as the visitors were struggling at 32/2 after the end of six overs. Daryl Mitchell accompanied Ajinkya Rahane and kept the scoreboard moving.

Rasikh Dar was seen making his first appearance for the Capitals after he replaced opener, Prithvi Shaw as an Impact Sub and was into the attack to bowl the eighth over.

The partnership between Rahane and Mitchell was looking well-set until Axar came to bowl his third over and broke the partnership by scalping the wicket of Mitchell for 34.

Rishabh Pant's move of handing over the ball to Mukesh Kumar proved successful as he picked up two-in-two by sending Rahane and Rizvi back to the dugout in the 14th over.

The pressure kept building on the Super Kings' batters and it resulted in another wicket for Mukesh in the form of Shivam Dube in the 17th over.

MS Dhoni came to bat at number 8 and his late blitz proved to be too little, too late for Chennai and we secured our first win of the campaign in emphatic style!

Brief Scores: Delhi Capitals 191/5 in 20 overs with David Warner 52(35); Rishabh Pant 51(32), Matheesha Pathirana 3/31; beat Chennai Super Kings 171/6 in 20 overs with Ajinkya Rahane 45(30); Mukesh Kumar 3/21, Khaleel Ahmed 2/21; by 20 runs.
