DC vs MI | Delhi Capitals look to continue winning run at home in IPL 2024

Delhi Capitals will look to build on the winning momentum at #QilaKotla against Mumbai Indians in IPL 2024 on Saturday at 3:30 PM IST. On Wednesday, we won a nail-biting thriller against Gujarat Titans by four runs at the Arun Jaitley Stadium.

We will make amends from our last meeting with Mumbai Indians, which we lost by 29 runs at the Wankhede Stadium earlier this month. However, we have been on a good run post that defeat, winning three of our four matches, and are currently sitting in sixth place with eight points from nine matches.

Ahead of the clash against Mumbai Indians, Afghanistan international Gulbadin Naib joined our squad, replacing the injured Mitch Marsh.

Players to watch out for:

Rishabh Pant:

Our captain, Rishabh Pant continues his rich vein of form in IPL 2024 with an unbeaten knock of 88 from just 43 balls that consisted of five fours and eight sixes against the Titans. He was adjudged Player of the Match for his exploits with the bat that proved to be the difference between the two teams.

Returning from injury, Pant leads our charge with 342 runs from nine matches at an average of 48.85 and a brilliant strike rate of 161.32. He is currently third on the list of top run-scorers this season.

Tristan Stubbs:

Tristan Stubbs helped our late surge against the Titans in the last game in an entertaining cameo where he scored 26 off just seven balls and was involved in a thrilling 67-run unbeaten fifth-wicket partnership off only 18 balls with our skipper.

Stubbs is Delhi’s second-best batter in IPL 2024 accumulating 225 runs at a massive average of 56.25 and an unbelievable strike rate of 192.30.

Axar Patel:

Axar Patel’s promotion to number three in the batting order worked wonders for us as he played a key role in helping us recover from a precarious 44/3 in the sixth over. His 66 off 43 balls and the 113-run partnership with Pant gave us a solid platform to go all guns blazing in the last three overs.

He displayed his all-round skills on the field picking up 1/28 with the ball and taking three important catches.

Kuldeep Yadav:

Kuldeep Yadav is our highest wicket-taker in IPL 2024 with 12 wickets from six matches. He picked up 2/29 in the last match to continue his run in the top-five list of leading wicket-takers this season. The left-arm wrist spinner has averaged just above 15 with an impressive economy rate of 7.54 striking at an astonishing rate of 12 balls.

Mukesh Kumar:

Mukesh Kumar has picked up 10 wickets for us this season from six matches. He has given us crucial breakthroughs this season averaging 22.30 runs a wicket and getting a batter out every 12.90 balls. He kept his nerve in our last game against the Titans bowling three dot balls and successfully defending 19 runs in the 20th over against the likes of big-hitting Rashid Khan.

Key Matchups:

Axar Patel vs Rohit Sharma

Axar Patel holds his own when up against Rohit Sharma, Mumbai Indians’ top run-getter in IPL 2024. In 10 innings where they have faced each other in the IPL, the left-arm spinner has dismissed the Mumbai batter thrice and conceded just 63 runs from 69 balls. The discomfort was evident even in their last game when Axar cleaned up Rohit after conceding just 12 runs off eight balls against him.

Khaleel Ahmed vs Tilak Varma

Tilak Varma has been in great form for Mumbai Indians this season averaging above 45 and striking at 151.66. But Khaleel Ahmed has had the measure of the southpaw in their head-to-head duel. In three innings, Khaleel has dismissed Tilak twice and gave away only 10 runs off his seven balls. Khaleel has yet another opportunity to keep Tilak Varma’s willow quiet.

David Warner vs Jasprit Bumrah

David Warner, one of the best players of the shortest format around the globe, will be up against Mumbai Indians’ pace spearhead Jasprit Bumrah in what will be a contest-deciding duel. An exciting matchup is on the cards as Warner is yet to be dismissed by Bumrah in the IPL. In eight matches against each other, the left-handed Warner has scored 54 runs off 45 balls at a strike rate of 120.00.
