New Delhi, 20 January, 2026: In the new leg at Vadodara, our girls put on a brilliant show to register their second win of the season, beating the Mumbai Indians by 7 wickets.
Our skipper won the toss and chose to bowl, sending MI into bat first. Within the powerplay, our bowlers put the opposition on the back foot, restricting them to just 23 runs for the loss of 2 wickets. Marizanne Kapp ensured MI felt the pressure, finishing her four overs with figures of 1/8 at an economy of 2.
While our bowlers kept Mumbai quiet for the first ten overs, Harmanpreet Kaur and Nat Sciver-Brunt accelerated with a 50-run partnership. However, Sree Charni had other plans, dismissing Harmanpreet and triggering DC’s comeback with the ball. She continued her brilliance, finishing with 3 wickets for 33 runs. With this excellent bowling effort, we restricted MI to 155 runs, setting a target of 156 for victory.
The chase began on the front foot, with our in-form openers picking up right where they left off. Shafali Verma and Lizelle Lee raced to 57 for no loss in the powerplay, imposing themselves on the game and setting the stage for a strong finish.
Our skipper Jemimah Rodrigues stepped up when it mattered most, stabilising the innings and leading from the front. She combined with Kapp to take the team across the finish line, ensuring the second leg began on a strong note. Jemimah scored 51 runs off 38 balls, earning Player of the Match honors for her calmness under pressure and decisive shot-making.
With Jemimah’s heroics, today’s victory was an all-round team effort, with our tigresses displaying courage, composure, and presence of mind across bat and ball. We’ll aim to continue our winning streak in the next match on Saturday, 24 January, against the Royal Challengers Bengaluru.
