DC vs MI | Who will be the first TATAWPL Champions?

The inaugural edition of the TATA WPL has been an immense success. Players, fans and experts have rejoiced at the cricketing brilliance on display, which has taken the sport up a notch.

After exciting battles all the way along the tournament, Delhi Capitals and Mumbai Indians will clash in a historic Final on Sunday, March 26, 2023, at the iconic Brabourne Stadium in Mumbai.

Our girls finished top the points table in the league stage, piping MI to direct qualification for the final on superior net run rate. It was our win against Harmanpreet Kaur and Co. in our penultimate league match that set the sail in our direction.

Ahead of the much-awaited Final, we caught up with Jemimah Rodrigues at her wholesome best.

Heading into the TATA WPL 2023 Final, the team has been in fine fettle. Skipper Meg Lanning is the current Orange Cap holder with 310 runs, while averaging a stunning 51.66. Our Meg-a-star celebrated her birthday on the eve of the final.

On the other hand, Shikha Pandey, who has scalped 10 wickets, has also proved influential in key moments for DC this season. Shafali Verma, Marizanne Kapp and Alice Capsey, among others, too have single-handedly influenced matches this season.

Now, with the final frontier just moments away, we believe something special is just around the corner. We cannot wait for action at Brabourne on Sunday!

DC v MI: Round 3 for the Crown

We will battle it out against familiar foes in MI for a third time this season. The Meg Lanning-led outfit is just one step away from lifting the title.

Meanwhile, our previous encounter against MI was a memorable one. Kapp, Pandey and Jonassen created turmoil amongst the Mumbai batters as they were restricted to 109/8 after 20 overs.

The Meg-Shifu combination, once again, breached the 50-run mark with ease. Capsey topped it off with a blitzkrieg in the end to seal a clinical victory with 11 overs to spare.

However, Harmanpreet Kaur’s side emerged victorious in Round One of this epic battle. Considering what’s at stake on Sunday, we can expect a closer and more exciting match for the trophy.

Our Star Performers

Shikha Pandey

Shikha Pandey has displayed fine form in TATA WPL 2023. Not only is she our leading wicket-taker, but she has also bowled with an impressive economy rate of 6.71 in the competition.

Pandey scalped two big wickets of Hayley Matthews and Harmanpreet Kaur in our last match against MI. Considering her form this season, we cannot wait for her to unleash her pace in the final.

Jemimah Rodrigues

Jemimah, meanwhile, has also had her fair share of impact performances this season. Stunning catches, flamboyant knocks and of course, her trademark celebrations, Jemi has been the soul of the side.

Our charismatic batter has scored 117 runs this season with an average close to 30. Her knocks against UPW and RCB, twice, were key in the team getting to an advantageous position in games.

Shafali Verma

Delivering power-packed performances at the top of the order has been Shafali’s MO this season. The U-19 Champion has amassed 241 runs, including two fifties, in the inaugural TATA WPL campaign.

Shifu scored a brisk 15-ball 33, which comprised six fours and a mighty six, against MI a few nights ago. The exuberant performances against GG and RCB also set up one-sided wins for DC earlier this season.

Expect these Intense Battles

Meg Lanning vs Saika Ishaque

Right-handed batter against left-arm spinner is always an interesting watch. While Saika Ishaque got the better of our skipper at the first time of asking, Lanning responded back with her trademark suave in the recent fixture.

To add to the spice of this eye-catching head-to-head, Lanning would like control of the Orange Cap while Saika would be keen on taking back the Purple Cap. The occasion itself is a cherry on top of this matchup, which we are keenly looking forward to on Sunday.

Alice Capsey vs Amelia Kerr

While Capsey has registered 159 runs and six wickets this season, Kerr has 135 runs and 13 wickets to her name. Both spin all-rounders have been vital to their teams making the final this season.

Alice Capsey, has also scalped a wicket against Mumbai in TATA WPL 2023. Moreover, she has notched 30-plus scores in three of her last four matches, which have been scored at a brisk rate too. Kerr, on the other hand, has seven wickets in her last five games.

Overall, this promises to be a fascinating battle, especially when our tigresses storm out to bat.

Marizanne Kapp vs Harmanpreet Kaur

Marizanne Kapp, our Ms. Dependable, has enjoyed a stellar TATA WPL 2023. She has delivered early wickets with the new ball on a consistent basis. Her bowling exploits include a 2/13 against MI.

Earlier in the season, Kapp had also picked up a five-wicket haul against GG. Also, Kappie has recorded 159 runs this season, which included a spirited display against RCB to help win a tight encounter.

Harmanpreet Kaur has also been in good form with the bat. She has scored three fifties this season, including a match-winning one in the season opener. However, the DC pacers have kept the MI skipper quiet so far.

The matchup between these two international stalwarts could go a long way in deciding the outcome of the final.
