Delhi Capitals look to chin up against Gujarat Giants for another W!

Letting bygones be bygones after our first loss in TATA WPL, we move on to another high-octane clash against Gujarat Giants (GG) at the Dr DY Patil Sports Academy, Navi Mumbai. We are pumped to see friends Jemimah Rodrigues and Harleen Deol turn into foes for a blockbuster night of cricket.

Coming on the back of a win in their third match of TATA WPL against Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) by 11 runs, Gujarat Giants may look to seal momentum after losing their first two matches.

On the other hand, Delhi Capitals had a tough last outing against Mumbai Indians where they suffered a defeat by eight wickets.

Our skipper Meg Lanning rightly said, “ Sometimes things don’t go your way. We learn what we can from the day and move on to the next.”

Winning the toss, Lanning chose to bat first. Our megastar continued her stormy form scoring 43(41) from one end and Jemimah Rockstar Rodrigues 25 (18) on the other end.

But the loss of early wickets and excellent bowling skills from the Harmanpreet Kaur-led side bowled us in 18 overs with just 105 runs on the board. Issy Wong, Saika Ishaque and Hayley Matthews picked up three wickets each for complete domination.

The second innings started with MI openers Yastika Bhatia and Hayley Matthews firing classy shots all over the ground. But our Dilli girls put in their best efforts on the field. A superb diving catch from Rodrigues stunned the crowd.

Focusing on the positives, we look to not dwell on the match result. With Coach Jonathan Batty providing constant support and motivation, we are ready to ROAR against the Sneh Rana-led side.

We also look forward to:

1. Lanning’s planning

Not your ordinary Orange Cap holder, Meg Lanning is a true leader in every sense of the word. Lanning indeed being the highest scorer of TATA WPL so far with 185 runs from three innings, is also a true leader who keeps supporting our girls despite highs and lows. We just can’t wait to see the way she improvises on our team for another W.

  1. Alice Capsey’s wonderland

Delhi Capitals have played two out of three matches at Dr Patil Sports Academy. On both occasions, Capsey bowled at controlled economy rates of 4.7 against Mumbai Indians and 5 against RCB.

Overall, Capsey has taken three wickets with the third-best economy rate of 5.4. She is also the most economical bowler from our DC den. Moreover, all three wickets were taken at Dr Patil Sports Academy, truly her wonderland!

And we can only wonder what’s going to happen next at the same place versus the orange army!

  1. Tight fielding

A screamer by Radha Yadav vs RCB followed by an internet-breaking diving catch by Rodrigues vs Mumbai Indians is a testament to the best efforts put on the field. Our girls have given their best show on the outfield and making impossible catches possible.

  1. Undying support from our fans

Win or lose, our fans from all over the world have supported us. In every match, you have shown up in large numbers to motivate us. Just like our girls, we can’t wait to see don the DC blues and red once again!

The Best vs The Best

  1. Meg Lanning vs Kim Garth

Our top run-scorer vs GG’s top wicket-taker will be an exciting battle on the charts. Storming in her purple patch, Lanning is expected for another powerful performance. On the other hand, the Irish right-arm medium bowler has taken five wickets in two matches We are on the edge of our seats for Lanning’s flying boundaries and Garth’s giant plan to stop our skipper.

  1. Tara Norris vs Harleen Deol

Another cross-clash of the table toppers is Giants’ top run-scorer Harleen Deol up against our top wicket-taker Tara Norris.

Ranking third on the TATA WPL charts, Norris has taken six wickets from three matches. Norris has provided us with breakthroughs right when we needed her the most. However, third-ranked Deol has made 113 runs in three matches which includes a match-winning knock of 67 (45) against RCB in their last outing.

Will Deol shatter our starry dreams or Norris will pull her usual terrific performance?

  1. Jemimah Rodrigues vs Ashleigh Gardner

Rockstar Rodrigues and Ash supremacy is another exciting clash we are waiting for. Rodrigues has played a pivotal role for DC from the first match, making 87 runs at a healthy strike rate of 147.3. Handy with the bat but extremely crucial with the ball, Gardner has taken four wickets so far alongside stunning performances on the field.

On the international stage from the years 2018 to 2023, our Indian prodigy Rodrigues and the Australian all-rounder have faced each other for multiple T20 matches but Gardner has failed to dismiss Rodrigues at all times. We’re all the more excited to see Rodrigues take Gardner to the cleaners during the thrilling encounter of Delhi Capitals vs Gujarat Giants.
