The Delhi Capitals return to their fortress today as they gear up to face Punjab Kings. Delhi are looking to bounce back strongly after a tough defeat away against the Sunrisers Hyderabad earlier this week. The Capitals head into this game determined to move on from their last outing and deliver a stronger performance.
In their previous encounters, DC have had a definite edge over the Kings, winning five out of the last eight matches. The boys in blue and red will be determined to continue their success against their Northern neighbour.
Sameer Rizvi has been the team’s standout performer this season, leading the run-scoring charts for Delhi. He had an impressive performance last season against PBKS, scoring a quickfire 58* to win the game for his side. Rizvi’s middle order aggression will be crucial later today.
KL Rahul has also batted well at the top, striking at a career-high rate of 167. He has scored 205 runs in six innings so far, providing solid starts in his last two games. Rahul also boasts an excellent record against Punjab’s lead spinner, Yuzvendra Chahal, with 95 runs at a strike rate of 175 in 11 innings, thus making him a key figure in setting the tone at the top.
The Capitals’ skipper Axar Patel will also be instrumental in the middle overs today as well. Axar has a good record against Marcus Stoinis and the in-form Prabhsimran Singh, restricting them to a strike-rate of just 60 and 92 against him respectively. His tight lines could prove vital to DC’s success in the middle overs.
With key players in form and favourable matchups in their favour, Delhi will be eager to put in a complete performance and return to winning ways at home.
