GT vs DC | Delhi Capitals register whopping win against Gujarat Titans

Delhi Capitals claimed their biggest win, in terms of balls remaining, in IPL history after beating Gujarat Titans with 67 delivering to spare at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad on Wednesday. With this win, we move to the sixth position in the IPL 2024 standings.

Our captain, Rishabh Pant, won the toss and elected to field. We went with only three foreign players in our Playing XI as Sumit Kumar replaced David Warner.

Ishant Sharma gave us a perfect start with the ball, dismissing the Gujarat Titans captain, Shubman Gill, early in his first over.

Gujarat Titans were 28/1 when Mukesh Kumar came in to bowl. He dismissed Wriddhiman Saha cheaply as the Titans’ wicketkeeper dragged the ball back onto the stumps.

The Titans, then, lost two quick wickets in the fifth over. Sai Sudharsan was caught short of his crease by Sumit for 12. Ishant, meanwhile, picked up his second wicket in the form of David Miller, courtesy of an excellent catch by Rishabh Pant behind the stumps.

The Giants found it difficult to score runs against our pacers. Khaleel Ahmed bowled a maiden over against Abhinav Manohar to end the Powerplay at 30/4.

Skipper Rishabh Pant made an impressive move by handing the ball to Tristan Stubbs to bowl the ninth over. The Protea star delivered two wickets in the first over he bowled in this IPL. Pant was active again in these two dismissals with two sharp stumpings.

Gujarat Titans succumbed under pressure as the wickets kept falling at regular intervals. Axar Patel, too, joined the wicket-takers list in the 12th over as he trapped Rahul Tewatia in front of the stumps.

Khaleel maintained his record of taking wickets in every game when he claimed the wicket of Mohit Sharma on the last ball of his spell. The home side were 78/8 at the end of 15 overs.

After a fabulous job with the ball, Khaleel passed on the baton to Abishek Porel, who replaced the pacer as an Impact Sub.

Mukesh Kumar scalped the wickets of Rashid Khan and Noor Ahmad in the 18th over to end the Titans' innings to their lowest-ever total in IPL. Gujarat Titans were dismantled for 89 in 17.3 overs.

Jake Fraser-McGurk (JFM) was in a hurry to chase the total down and looked dangerous in his short stay at the crease. However, after smashing two sixes and two fours, he was dismissed in the second over.

Both the openers were in the dugout after Prithvi Shaw failed to counter Sandeep Warrier’s short ball in the next over.

Abishek Porel and Shai Hope, meanwhile, were going great guns but were dismissed in quick succession in the fifth and the sixth over.

Skipper Rishabh Pant, then, partnered with Sumit Kumar got us home in just 8.5 overs to claim our third win of the season. This was also our biggest win in terms of balls remaining in IPL history. With this win, we moved to the sixth spot on the points table.

Brief Scores: Delhi Capitals 92/4 in 8.5 overs with Jake Fraser-McGurk 20(10), Shai Hope 19(10), Sandeep Warrier 2/40; beat Gujarat Giants 89/10 in 17.3 overs with Rashid Khan 31(24), Mukesh Kumar 3/14, Ishant Sharma 2/8; by 6 wickets.

Player of the Match: Rishabh Pant.
