Just as the lunch break was approaching, Hanuma Vihari knocked one down the ground to complete his second ton in the match. With that single, the Andhra batsman became the first player since his Delhi Capitals teammate Shikhar Dhawan to record twin centuries in an Irani Cup game. What makes this statistic even more impressive is the fact that Vihari became the first batsman ever to notch up hundreds in three consecutive Irani Cup innings.
Having scored 183 last year against the same opposition in the same tournament, Hanuma scored 114 in the first innings. Braving through a batting collapse at the other end, he held fort for his side to help them register a total of 330. He followed that up with a classy 180* in the second innings and looked set for a double ton before captain Ajinkya Rahane decided to declare and give Vidarbha a target of 280 to chase. Nevertheless, the no.3 batsman made his way into the record books with a hat-trick that is unheard of and an accomplishment that was unachieved of till date.
