KKR vs DC | Delhi Capitals gear up for crucial away game at Eden Gardens

Delhi Capitals will be keen to register a fifth win in six matches, as we meet Kolkata Knight Riders in an IPL 2024 match at the Eden Gardens in Kolkata on Monday at 7:30 PM IST.

We finished on the right side of a high-scoring contest against Mumbai Indians, winning by 10 runs at the Arun Jaitley Stadium on Saturday.

We will look to continue the winning momentum and put it across KKR who had won the first match against us at Visakhapatnam earlier this month. With our win against MI, we currently occupy the fifth place in the IPL 2024 points table with 10 points from 10 matches.

Players to watch out for:

Jake Fraser-McGurk:

Jake Fraser-McGurk has been a revelation at the top of our batting order in IPL 2024 scoring runs at a strike rate of 237.50, the highest among batters who have faced a minimum of 100 balls this season. He has amassed 247 runs for us at an average of 49.40 including three fifties in five matches in this campaign.

His electric starts in the powerplay have nicely set the game up for our skipper Rishabh Pant and Tristan Stubbs to take over. Last match was another exhibition of that as he demolished the MI bowling attack scoring 84 off just 27 balls, out of which a massive 80 runs were from boundaries (11 fours and six sixes).

Tristan Stubbs:

If Fraser-Mcgurk started it off, it was Tristan Stubbs who hit the final nail in the death overs in the last match. Coming in at 180/3 in the 14th over, Stubbs hit 26 runs off Luke Wood’s 18th over to keep up our scoring rate and took us to a total that MI could not reach. Stubbs remained unbeaten on 48 off just 25 balls at an astonishing strike rate of 192.00 with six boundaries and two maximums.

Rishabh Pant:

Coming in at number four against MI, our captain Rishabh Pant played yet another quickfire innings to notch 29 runs off 19 balls hitting two fours and two sixes. He, along with Stubbs, put together a crucial 55-run partnership off 27 balls to up the ante towards the end of our batting innings.

With 371 runs from 10 matches, Pant continues to be our top batter in IPL 2024 and has been a constant presence in the top 10 run-getters list in the tournament this year. He averages 46.37 and scores his runs at a strike rate of 160.60. He also stands on top of the wicketkeepers’ chart this year with 14 dismissals behind the stumps.

Rasikh Salam:

Rasikh Salam was the hero of our bowling unit in the close game against MI as he picked up three wickets for 34 runs off his four overs. He was also the most economical bowler in the match conceding just 8.50 runs an over in a game that saw batters of both sides amass runs at the rate of 12.60 an over. He has a total of six wickets in IPL 2024 from four matches.

Khaleel Ahmed:

Khaleel Ahmed is having a great IPL this year helping us with crucial wickets in the powerplay and putting the opposition on the backfoot. The left-arm pacer has 12 dismissals from 10 matches this season with seven of them coming in the first six overs, the joint-most for any bowler this season. Khaleel’s wickets have come at an excellent strike rate of 18.50 balls, which means that he picks a wicket every three overs he bowls.

In the last match, Khaleel picked up important wickets of Rohit Sharma and Suryakumar Yadav to scuttle MI’s chase of a big total and finished with 2/45 off his four overs.

Key Matchups:

Kuldeep Yadav vs Sunil Narine

Kuldeep Yadav holds an edge over big-hitting Sunil Narine in a duel that could decide the result of the match. The left-arm wrist spinner has got the better of Narine in both matches they have come against each other. Narine could manage only four runs against Kuldeep and has just faced three balls to get out twice.

Rishabh Pant vs Andre Russell

Rishabh Pant, our best batter this season, has an advantage against Andre Russell in this interesting matchup. In seven matches when they have faced off against each other, our skipper Pant has scored 52 runs off just 24 balls against the West Indies all-rounder getting dismissed thrice.

This head-to-head duel will be crucial for us as Pant has been in top form sending the opposition bowlers on a leather hunt. If Pant can boss this duel, then we will have an upper hand in the match.

Prithvi Shaw vs Sunil Narine

Prithvi Shaw is yet to be dismissed by Sunil Narine in six matches against each other. Shaw scored 47 runs in only 31 balls at an exceptional strike rate of 151.61 against the West Indies mystery spinner. If Shaw can set the tempo against Narine at the top of the order, it will be half the job done for us.
