AS THINGS STAND

Our dream run continued in IPL 2019 as we defeated RCB in our penultimate home match of the season. The victory took us to the top position on the IPL table. It was emotional as we qualified for the Playoffs for the first time after 2012.

Currently, we have 16 points from 12 matches played thus far. Our next opponents CSK also have 16 points by virtue of 8 wins from 12 games and are placed 2nd on the table.

The fixture holds paramount importance as it will help the winning team guarantee a place in the Top 2 which is a huge benefit considering the format of the tournament.

C) Approaching Milestones:

5: Dhawan needs to hit 5 more sixes to reach 100 in the IPL.

1: Kagiso Rabada requires 1 more wicket to overtake record for the most wickets in a single season by a Delhi bowler. Morne Morkel (jointly) holds the record with 25 wickets in 2012; Rabada also has 25 this season.

49: more runs and Dhawan will complete 500 runs in this IPL. Will become the 3rd player to do so in this season.

THE GAME-CHANGERS

Our protea speedster Rabada has been our trump card when it comes to bowling. He has been a vital cog in the team. The Yorker specialist has consistently provided us breakthroughs at crucial junctures in each match. Kagiso is also the current Purple Cap holder with 25 wickets to his name from 12 games. Imran Tahir, with 17 wickets from 12 matches, is at 2nd place in the race of most wickets.

Shikhar Dhawan has been impeccable this season. Our experienced opener has amassed 451 runs in 12 matches at an average of 41.00 and strike rate of 137.08. Gabbar is also only one of three players to have scored over 600 runs against CSK. The 33-year-old has an average of 37.75 against the Chennai-based franchise.

MS Dhoni missed CSK's previous match against MI and is likely to return when they play us at Chepauk. With 314 runs from 10 matches, Dhoni has been the top run-getter for CSK this season. The veteran wicketkeeper-batsman has led from the front and finished quite a few games thanks to his belligerent batting display towards the end. We must keep a close eye on him.

Imran Tahir has been exceptional for CSK. He will look to make a major impact in the business end of the league stage before departing for South Africa to join the national team for World Cup preparation. Tahir has bowled with an economy of 6.50 this season and has a brilliant strike rate of 16.23.

With the playoff spot sealed, our boys are now ready to seal a top 2 spot in the table!

Probable Starting XI:

Shikhar Dhawan, Prithvi Shaw, Shreyas Iyer (c), Rishabh Pant (wk), Colin Ingram, Sherfane Rutherford, Axar Patel, Amit Mishra, Kagiso Rabada, Ishant Sharma, Sandeep Lamichhane

*The above playing XI is just an educated judgement. The final playing XI always rests in the hands of the Team Management.
