Jonathan Batty’s side is all set to now take on the Gujarat Giants, who have yet to get off the mark in the WPL 2024. In our previous clashes during the inaugural season against Beth Mooney’s side, we registered a massive 10-wicket win before playing out a narrow 11-run defeat in the return fixture.

As we look to end our Bengaluru leg of WPL 2024 on a positive note, here are some key things you need to know about this clash.

Players to watch out for

Alice Capsey

The young all-rounder from England was fantastic with the bat against Bangalore. Having walked out to bat at no. 3, Capsey stitched a match-winning partnership with Shafali Verma and exploded in the middle overs before narrowly missing out on a well-deserved 50. She will be eager to deliver big in the upcoming clash and go all guns blazing against the Gujarat Giants.

Marizanne Kapp

The Proteas all-rounder is in the form of her life in the ongoing WPL 2024. She has not only been crucial with the bat, producing handy cameos, but has also had a major impact with the ball. A player known to have the knack of taking crucial wickets, the 34-year-old has the ability to restrict the flow of runs and will be a vital cog for the team against the Giants. To add to that, she is coming fresh off two back to back player of the match performance.

Jess Jonassen

The Aussie all-rounder had a near-perfect outing in her previous game after replacing Annabel Sutherland in the playing XI. Not only did she play a quick-fire innings of 36* off 16 balls, but she also recorded figures of 3/21 from four overs. It wouldn’t come as a surprise if Jonassen displayed her skills of the highest order once again.

Key Player Battles:

Marizanne Kapp vs Beth Mooney

With six wickets in three games and an economy of 6:00, Kapp has been one of the best bowlers in the ongoing WPL 2024. She has managed to keep the opposition batters silent in the powerplay and will be eager to replicate her performances against Beth Mooney. The Giants’ skipper from Down Under can turn the game around with the bat and is a player to be feared.

Shafali Verma vs Tanuja Kanwar

Shafali has a knack for taking the game head-on and playing an aggressive style of cricket. Heading into the game on the back two consecutive fifties, she will be eager to further build on her performances. However, the DC star will be up against the Giants’ Tanuja Kanwar.

The bowler is among the highest wicket takers, taking five wickets in three games so far. Registering an economy of 7.11 and recording an impressive average of 12.80 makes her numbers look even better. It remains interesting to see how Shafali goes about her business against Tanuja.
