Our tigresses will be up and running as they look to get two points and get off the mark in the WPL 2024. The opening match saw a heartbreaking last-ball loss for the side. However, the spirits were high in a camp for what was a good outing with some positives.
Now, they will be up against the UP Warriorz who incidentally also had a close two-run loss in their first match. The Capitals have a hundred percent record against the Warriorz, having won the two fixtures in season one by margins of 42 runs and 5 wickets, respectively.
Players to watch out for
Alice Capsey
The young all-rounder from England was fantastic with the bat and the ball against Mumbai. Having walked out to bat at no. 3 after an early wicket, Capsey made sure she had the runs ticking away before completely exploding in the middle overs and towards the death. Her strokeful knock of 75 from 53 balls helped us set a good score.
With the ball as well, she took up the brave challenge of bowling the last over with only 12 runs to defend. Having picked up two wickets in the first five balls, the last ball went for a six. She also has a good record against UP, having picked up a player of the match award with a 34-run knock and a three-fer the last time we played them in 2023.
Arundhati Reddy
The all-rounder was in her top form with the ball in the opening match against Mumbai. She first dismissed Nat Sciver-Brunt with a beautiful yorker and then further dismissed Yastika Bhatia, who had already smashed a fifty. She was also economical with her spell conceding only 27 runs in her four overs.
Key Player Battles:
Alice Capsey vs Deepti & Ecclestone
During her knock against Mumbai, Capsey’s strike rate against spin was over 170 and her natural instincts of attacking spinners set up a tasty battle with the opposition’s spin duo of Deepti Sharma and Sophie Ecclestone.
Shikha Pandey vs Alyssa Healy
Remember that ball which Shikha bowled to Healy in a T20 match a couple of years back which came back sharply and knocked over the stumps? All the DC fans will be hoping that we see a repeat of that in this game, given how dangerous with the bat Healy can be.
