New Delhi, February 6, 2026: After an outstanding season filled with flair, resilience, and memorable moments, Delhi Capitals fell short at the final hurdle.
In the final, Smriti Mandhana won the toss and elected to field first. Shafali Verma and Lizelle Lee got our innings off to a flying start, with Lizelle continuing her sublime powerplay form. Laura Harris then joined the party, helping us reach a powerplay score of 53.
Jemimah Rodrigues and Laura took charge in the middle overs, stitching together an invaluable 50-run partnership. Our skipper led from the front with a crucial captain’s knock, scoring 57 runs at a strike rate of 154.05. At the back end of the innings, Chinelle Henry provided the finishing touches, accelerating to a rapid 50-run partnership with Laura in just 22 balls, helping us post a formidable total of 204.
Our girls had given it their all with the bat, registering the highest total ever in a WPL Final. With RCB facing a steep chase, our bowlers were primed and ready. We struck early in the second over, dismissing the dangerous Grace Harris with a beautiful inswinger from Chinelle Henry.
However, Smriti Mandhana and Georgia Voll built momentum for RCB during the chase. Our bowlers continued to fight back, with Minnu Mani breaking the partnership and Chinelle picking up Mandhana’s wicket. Despite a spirited effort, it was not meant to be for our girls in blue.
We look back on a season filled with brilliance, passion, and dynamic performances. Our batters produced outstanding knocks, while our bowlers’ consistency kept us in the contest until the very end.
The 2026 WPL season will forever be remembered, Jemimah’s first season as captain, and Nandini’s breakout year, where she claimed the Emerging Player award with 17 wickets.
Thank you to our fans for your unwavering support throughout the season. We’ll be back next year with renewed energy and spirit, ready to challenge for the trophy once again.
