The Delhi Capitals secured an emphatic five-wicket victory over the Rajasthan Royals in their final home game of the season. The DC boys never allowed the game to drift away from them, consistently finding ways to stay in the contest and responded with certainty to every challenge that the opposition threw at them.
Axar Patel’s fortune at the toss saw his team earn the opportunity to bowl first, putting Rajasthan into bat first. The Royals began strongly in the powerplay, but the Capitals’ bowlers held th fort to keep the home side in the game.
At the 15th over mark, RR were 161/3, before Mitchell Starc took matters into his hands, picking up three wickets in an over and turning the match in DC’s favour. His brilliant death bowling saw him return spectacular figures of 4/40. Starc and Ngidi combined to ensure that Delhi restricted Rajasthan to a total of only 193.
The DC batters came out of the blocks in the powerplay, accelerating to 72 runs for no loss. Abishek Porel and KL Rahul took on the opposition bowlers, never allowing them to completely settle into their spells. The duo raced to 105 in no time, with both scoring invaluable 50s. KL’s knock of 56 runs resulted in him crossing 500 runs this season.
Axar Patel walked to the crease at number four and his strike-rotation along with his power-hitting guided the team towards the finish line. Ashutosh Sharma joined him towards the end of the innings and completed the chase, winning it for DC.
Mitchell Starc was awarded the Player of the Match for his phenomenal bowling which was instrumental in winning the match for his team.
The Delhi Capitals have a week’s rest before they travel to Kolkata to take on the Kolkata Knight Riders in their last game of the season.
