The Delhi Capitals began the 2026 IPL Season with a 6 wicket victory against the Lucknow Super Giants. As always, the encounter produced a rollercoaster of events but the Capitals held their nerve to secure their first win of the season. There were 3 new debutants for Delhi; Lungi Ngidi, Pathum Nissanka and Nitish Rana.
Axar Patel won the toss and put the home team into bat first. Mukesh Kumar started off proceedings and was pivotal to testing the opposition batsmen. His tight lines ensured that his colleagues, Axar and Ngidi picked up wickets at the other end. LSG were kept quiet in the powerplay, scoring only 48 runs and losing 2 wickets.
The wickets continued to fall for Lucknow as they lost half their side for just 71 runs in the first 10 overs. Abdul Samad and Shahbaz Ahmed tried to re-build the innings but Ngidi and Natarajan kept chipping away and picking up wickets. Both bowlers took their maiden wickets for DC and ended the match with figures of 3/27 and 3/29 respectively. Delhi bowled out the Super Giants for 141 runs, setting a total of 142 for the batsmen.
Delhi’s innings began slowly as they lost KL Rahul, Nitish Rana, Pathum Nissanka and Axar Patel in the first 4 overs for just 26 runs. However, Impact Player Sameer Rizvi wasted no time, picking up right where he left off last season. Together with Tristan Stubbs, the duo stitched together a brilliant 119 run partnership that guided the team home.
Rizvi was awarded the Man of the Match for his knock of 70 runs in 47 balls. Attention now turns home, where the Mumbai Indians await.
