About Chinelle Henry

Hailing from Jamaica, Chinelle Henry's journey has been shaped by the island’s vibrant sporting culture. Like many young West Indian talents, her early cricket education came not in academies, but in backyards and on the streets. Those rugged games toughened her up and sharpened her instincts, laying the foundation for a fearless all-rounder.

Henry’s domestic debut for Jamaica came in 2009, and even as a teenager, she stood out. A seam-bowling all-rounder with raw pace and athleticism, she had the ability to swing the ball and clear the ropes with ease. Her promise was quickly recognized, and she earned her maiden international cap in 2013 in a T20I against England, followed by an ODI debut the next year against New Zealand.

However, her early international journey was far from smooth. While she flashed moments of brilliance, inconsistency saw her drift in and out of the side, particularly in the ODI format but Henry remained undeterred. She doubled down on her training, refining her bowling variations and developing into a more destructive batter down the order.

Her determination bore fruit when she made a strong return to the West Indies setup in 2018, this time more seasoned and focused. By 2019, her growing impact was formally recognized when Cricket West Indies awarded her a central contract. Since then, she has evolved into a key contributor for the team across formats, known for her wicket-taking bursts and late-order hitting.

Henry’s skill set has also translated seamlessly into franchise cricket. In 2023, she played a vital role in helping the Barbados Royals clinch the Women’s Caribbean Premier League title. Her performances earned her a call-up to the UP franchise in the 2025 Women’s T20 League, where she stepped in as a replacement for Alyssa Healy and made an immediate impact with her all-round capabilities.

She was released at the end of the season and entered the auction. Given that her ball-striking ability ranks among the best in the game, it did not go unnoticed, as Delhi snapped her up for the 2026 season at a price of INR 1.3 crore.
