Delhi Capitals vs Kolkata Knight Riders

30th March 2019, 08:00 PM IST

Feroz Shah Kotla, Delhi, India

Match overview:

Our boys got us off to a flying start in IPL 2019 by winning the first encounter against Mumbai Indians. The highlight of the game was Rishabh Pant's outstanding knock of 78* off 27 deliveries. We eventually ended up winning the game by 37 runs.

However, our first home game of the season went in favour of the visitors - CSK. After electing to bat first, our boys put up a fightable total of 147/6 in 20 overs. The Chennai-based franchise won the match with just 2 balls to spare.

Nevertheless, there are a lot of positives the team management derived from the 2nd match as the team put up a stiff challenge against the three-time champions. The boys have also been having intense training sessions leading to our second home game against Kolkata Knight Riders.

Kolkata Knight Riders is a team which can never be taken lightly. They are two-time champions of the IPL (2012 and 2014) and have also made it to the playoffs stage consistently in the past three editions and established themselves as one of the strongest teams in the competition.

KKR have started things on a positive note - winning 2 out of 2 games - in IPL 2019. They won their first encounter against Sunrisers Hyderabad in nerve-wracking fashion.

There is a lot of positive energy flowing within our DC boys. We have won 2 of the previous 5 games played against the Knights and the upcoming match promises to be a nail-biting encounter as well.

Key Players To Watch Out For:

Considering the immaculate batting form Rishabh Pant is in, he will always be one of the players to watch out for. The youngster followed up the 78 scored against MI in the first match with a good cameo of 25 from 13 deliveries against CSK. Our southpaw also holds an excellent batting record at Kotla.

Pant has amassed 680 runs in 18 matches at Qila Kotla at an average of 40.00. Furthermore, his strike rate of 173.03 at the venue is also the best in the entire IPL (considering a minimum of 250 runs scored).

Shreyas Iyer, our talismanic skipper, got a start in both the matches. A big knock is due from him.

Amit Mishra will play an important role in the upcoming game against KKR. With superstar players in the opposition team, all the experience ‘Mishi Bhai’ has gained over the years will come to the fore. Our spin maestro clinched 2 crucial wickets of Shane Watson and Raina in the previous match. He is just 2 wickets away from reaching the landmark figure of 150 wickets in his IPL career.

Andre Russell was declared the man of the match in both of KKR's first two matches. He certainly provides the X-factor to the The Purple-Gold Army. The Jamaican player has amassed 97 in the two matches played at a mind-boggling strike rate of 269.44. Russell also has 4 wickets to his name in the tournament played thus far. His big-hitting ability can turn the match around.

Nitish Rana has been in great nick in IPL 2019. The 25-year-old KKR player has accumulated 131 runs in the 2 matches played thus far. He scored 68 runs against SRH and continued the strong performance by smashing 63 off 34 against the Kings XI.

Rana hails from Delhi and plays for them in the Ranji Trophy. The dynamic batsman would want to impress at Kotla which makes him a dangerous player for us. Our bowlers will need to get rid of him as soon as possible.

Final Thoughts:

The last time we squared off against KKR was on 27 April 2018, the match was a high scoring encounter and skipper Iyer led from the front and smashed a brilliant 93 runs off 40 deliveries. His knock included 10 sixes and 3 fours. We posted a total of 219 runs and defeated KKR by 55 runs. This was Shreyas' highest score of his 2018 IPL campaign.

The young skipper will be looking to lead from the front once again as we look to get our 2nd triumph of IPL 2019. We also have the support of our fans while Kolkata will be playing their first match outside home.

The #QilaKotla pitch is expected to give purchase to the spinners once again. The slow pitch gets even slower as the match progresses. Spinners will play a central role in our upcoming game against KKR.
