DC Musters Modest Total on Tough Sharjah Pitch
The toss was a vital one, and it didn’t go our way. Eoin Morgan chose to field and out strode the two openers Gabbar and Shaw. Marcus Stoinis had returned to the XI in place of Tom Curran.
Prithvi Shaw started off on the front foot, literally and metaphorically, creaming a cover drive for four off Lockie Ferguson off the third ball he faced. Shakib Al Hasan bowled the third over and Shaw danced down the track and deposited him over mid-wicket to score the first six against KKR at Sharjah this season since their match versus RR.

He then followed it up with a cut for four, before Dhawan took on the other spinner Narine for back-to-back maximums.

Against the run of play, Shaw was trapped in front off Varun Chakaravarthy’s first delivery. The returning Marcus Stoinis came in at number 3 and got away a fine boundary off an inside-out lofted drive. Some tight bowling and a tough batting wicket restricted free-flowing scoring as we reached 65/1 at the halfway mark.
Stoinis perished trying to up the ante with just a little over 8 overs to go, and Shreyas Iyer replaced him out in the middle. The going was difficult, and we lost Gabbar for 36 at the beginning of the 15th over. Partnerships and boundaries were both hard to come by, as we lost our skipper Pant shortly after.
It seemed to go from bad to worse for Delhi as Hetmyer was holed out by a screamer from Gill at long-on. Thankfully, Varun had overstepped to give a gleefully returning Hettie a lease of life. Hetmyer took advantage of the reprieve and deposited Ferguson for two maximums.

Shreyas Iyer took on Mavi and found a four and a beautiful straight six to finish off the innings at a modest 135/5

Shubman Gill started off with a fine cover drive, while Venkatesh Iyer got going at the other end with a sweep for four in the next over. Unfortunately, these were signs of things to come for the next few overs.
Axar Patel was taken to the Sharjah roof over mid-wicket, and Rabada was carted over long-on. Venkatesh Iyer was in that sort of a mood and mindset. KKR got to 51/0 at the end of the powerplay. Things slowed down a little bit after the field restrictions were lifted, but the wicket still eluded DC. A couple more boundaries later, Iyer was finally dismissed by Rabada for 55 with the Knights at 96 in 12.2 overs.
Nitish Rana came in and he didn’t waste much time before hitting a straight six. Axar Patel was having a rare off night. When Gill pulled Nortje over long-on for six, it seemed like the 14 runs left to get from 26 deliveries were a mere formality. We could not have been more wrong!
Nortje got rid of Rana from the final ball of that over, and what happened in the fours overs to come was nothing short of magic by a group of men that just refused to give up. Our words wouldn’t do justice to what our bowlers (ALMOST) pulled off at the end, so we’ll just type out how the last four overs went down.

The warriors in DC blue made a match out of nothing, and once again showed us that all you need to do when things aren’t going for you is to B.E.L.I.E.V.E in yourself. The result didn’t go our way, we didn’t make back-to-back finals. But one thing is for sure... This team has made us swell with pride once more, for the fight they put up and the hearts they won.
