The stage is set. Our girls have donned the Delhi Capitals Blue and Red. Enthusiasm glistens in their eyes as we march for the inaugural TATA Women’s Premier League 2023.

TATA WPL 2023: A historic first

Years in the making, the inaugural edition of TATA Women's Premier League is finally here. This exciting league provides an opportunity for experienced as well as budding women talent from all over the globe to prove their mettle at what promises to be one of the biggest stages in world cricket.

Delhi Capitals is proud to be one of the five teams to join this historic journey.

Owing to a remarkable auction, we built the foundations for a well-balanced team.

“We have compiled a really strong squad, a super group of players. If we can get the players performing at their maximum potential in the tournament, then we should hopefully qualify for the final."

These stars are going to grow and learn under the able guidance of our experienced coaching staff led by Head Coach Jonathan Batty, Assistant Coaches Hemlata Kala and Lisa Keightley, along with Fielding Coach Biju George.

A Star-Studded Capitals Universe:

Meg Lanning:

The Delhi Capitals WPL Skipper has won it all on the international stage and now will have her sights fixed on the inaugural WPL title.

Known for her leadership qualities, she is rock solid with the bat and one of the most stylish batters in women’s cricket.

Jemimah Rodriques:

Chota packet, Bada punch is the apt way to describe our vice-captain and rising Indian superstar Jemimah Rodrigues. Be it quick-fire runs or planning a chase to perfection our JEM can do it all.

Known for her explosive style of batting, Jemi will be one of the key batting figures to our batting success in WPL.

Shafali Verma

Keeping up with the tradition of onboarding U-19 World Cup winning captains, it was no surprise that Shafali Verma was drafted into the Capitals Universe.

The inaugural U-19 Women's T20 World Cup winning captain has captivated the world with her no-nonsense, big-hitting batting style. A power hitter like none other, Shafali has the calibre to take the game away from the opposition with her batting acumen.

Marizanne Kapp

A top performer, Kapp's contribution with the bat and ball has been immense wherever she has played. The Protean all-rounder boasting 1500+ runs and 100+ wickets will also add some much-needed stability to our relatively young squad.

PS: Fiery South Africans in the Capitals Universe is destiny!

Coming off a recent historic run at the T20 World Cup where South Africa reached the final for the first time, it is safe to say that Kappie will always bring that fighting spirit to the Capitals squad.

Player Battles:

We take on the Smriti Mandhana-led Royal Challengers Bangalore in our first TATA WPL match. With proven stalwarts of the game taking the field for either sides, this contest promises to be a must-watch clash!

Shafali Verma vs Renuka Singh

Shafali loves to get going early, taking advantage of fielding restrictions set in the powerplay. Renuka Singh on the other hand has a knack for picking up wickets in the powerplay.

An exciting battle at the top that may well shape the outcome of the match.

Shikha Pandey vs Smriti Mandhana

Shikha Pandey will have the important task of picking early wickets and most importantly that of the RCB skipper and opening batter Smriti Mandhana.

Smriti's aggressive style of play is always a threat but if Shikha Pandey can work her magic at the top, we will be controlling the game from the get go.

Marizanne Kapp vs Ellyse Perry

Two of the best all-rounders in the women’s game are set to go head-to-head in our opening game as Kapp and Perry face off.

Both hit the ball a long way, take crucial wickets, and have enough experience under their belts to lead their respective sides to victory.
