DC vs SRH in 50 words
A fiery batting display by Warner (92* off 58) and Powell (67* off 35) meant that the DC Tigers got to a roaring total of 207. SRH put up a fierce contest but the DC pacers led by Khaleel Ahmed made sure the game was never out of their hands.

The 50th game of IPL 2022 was set to take place at the Brabourne Stadium. Williamson won the toss yet again and put the DC Men in Blue into bat first. The DC line-up saw four changes, a couple of them forced, with Shaw, Axar, Fizz and Sakariya making way for Mandeep, Ripal, Khaleel and Nortje.
Bhuvneshwar Kumar started the proceedings for the Men in Orange in the best way possible, bowling a wicket maiden as DC lost Mandeep Singh early to an outswinger. David Warner on the other hand, continued his sublime form by hitting another first ball boundary with a lofted drive over covers.
Express speedster Umran Malik’s first over saw a glimpse of an all out attack by Warner as he used the pace and collected two back-to-back boundaries and a fierce maximum for starters.
Mitchell Marsh also started with the same attacking intent hitting two boundaries, but was soon dismissed off a cutter by Sean Abbott. The powerplay ended with 50 runs on the board and two of our batters back in the hut.
Come the 8th over, Warner smashed a maximum over long-on to achieve a milestone of 400 sixes in T20s.The very next over, Captain Pant unleashed himself against Shreyas Gopal as he scored a hat-trick of sixes, followed by a boundary. But the quickfire cameo ended soon after as he chopped one on to the stumps on the last ball of the same over.
Powell joined the party out in the middle with a 106 meter monster over long-off. David Warner clubbed an Umran Malik bouncer for a four over mid-wicket, bringing up his 4th IPL 2022 half-century and more importantly the 89th of his T20 career, going past Chris Gayle to hold the record for the most 50s in T20 cricket history.
The duo made sure the scoreboard kept ticking for the next 5 overs, bringing up a quick 50 run stand with at least one boundary per over except the 15th. The death overs saw some hardcore hitting as Powell punished the bowlers by smoking some sixes around the ground, and Davey played some cheeky shots as the runs kept coming.
The last 4 overs saw 60 runs being scored, with 19 of them coming off the last over as Powell took apart Umran Malik. Powell brought up his half century in the middle of this final-over carnage, with a powerful six down the ground, followed by three consecutive boundaries to end the innings at 207/3 with a mammoth unbeaten partnership of 122 runs off 66 balls.
All this while David Warner remained unbeaten on 92 at the non-striker's end, 8 short of what would have been a poetic century against SRH. However, the southpaw didn’t fret about it one bit.
“At the start of the over I asked him if he wanted a single to try and get a hundred. But he said, ‘Listen, that is not how cricket is played.’ I should try to smack it as hard as I can and as far as I can. And I did that!” said Rovman Powell after his innings on the broadcast.
Clinical Bowling Display
Defending a mighty 207 runs, the DC pace battery was off to a great start as both the Hyderabad openers were found back in the dugout within the powerplay at the score of 35. Khaleel was right on the money, dismissing Abhishek Sharma as he flicked it straight in the hands of Kuldeep at short fine-leg. From the other end, Anrich Nortje announced his comeback in style as he scalped the wicket of SRH skipper with an outside edge to the keeper.
The over right after the powerplay, we got another breakthrough as Tripathi pulled one into the hands of Thakur at deep-square leg. Mitchell Marsh had his first wicket for DC in his very first over. Delhi was in the driver’s seat.
The Makram-Pooran duo found themselves in the middle of some trouble for SRH. After taking a few overs to settle down, they kept the SRH hunt alive as Makram launched into Kuldeep and Marsh in the middle overs to bring up their 50 run stand.
Come the 13th over, Khaleel was called back into the attack and it was the right decision as he broke the partnership dismissing Makram with an off-cutter.
The chase was still on as Shashank Singh timed a boundary down the ground off his first ball! But the bigger danger was at the other end, with the Southpaw from the West Indies depositing a few good maximums off the likes of Nortje and Thakur.
Lord Shardul came back into the attack and picked up his first wicket of the night, dismissing Shashank Singh as he gave a regulation catch to Anrich Nortje at short third-man. This didn’t stop Pooran, as he went on to bring up a fighting half-century off just 29 balls.
Khaleel had an exceptional day as he picked up his 3rd wicket, dismissing Sean Abbott with a wide yorker and a milestone of 100 T20 wickets was achieved.
With 55 needed from 18 balls, Pooran stood between another DC win at the Brabourne. He managed to connect a boundary and a six before Shardul came roaring back with the wicket of the danger man.
With Pooran out for 62, the formalities were completed over the next couple of overs before DC registered a 21-run win to climb up to the 5th spot on the points table with our unbeaten record at the Brabourne still intact.
