DC vs PBKS | Heart Break at Qila Kotla As Capitals Fall Short By 31 Runs

An explosive start at the top by David Warner and Phil Salt and a collective bowling effort, despite a Prabhsimran Singh century, wasn’t enough as we failed to cross the finish line against Punjab Kings at Qila Kotla on Saturday.

Earlier, Skipper David Warner called it right at the toss and decided to bowl first. Mukesh Kumar and Pravin Dubey came in for us in place of Lalit Yadav and Ripal Patel.

Early Breakthroughs Ft. Ishant Sharma:

It was always going to be a good contest between Ishant Sharma and Shikhar Dhawan. The two senior pros of the Indian Cricket Team did not disappoint and treated Kotla with the same. Dhawan drew the first blood by hitting Ishant for six on the very first ball. Ishant roared back with vengeance and dismissed Dhawan off the very next delivery.

Ishant got rid of a dangerous Liam Livingstone on the first ball of his second over inside the powerplay and pushed the Kings on the backfoot.

Axar Patel Continues His Stellar Form:

Bapu wasn’t to be left far behind and dismissed Jitesh Sharma in the final over of the powerplay. He ended up bowling a spell of four overs for 1/27.

Prabhsimran’s Century Seals The Show:

We were calling the shots in the powerplay but Prabhsimran’s stay in the middle overs helped the Kings put on an above-par total on the board.

Once he was dismissed, the opposition could only score 13 off the final 10 balls of the innings as we were left to chase down a challenging target of 168.

Warner and Salt Show:

Chasing 168, our openers got us off to a flyer. We were 65/0 in six overs and the platform was laid down perfectly for the run chase.

Salt departed but Warner soon brought up his sixth fifty of this season.

Quick Wickets Dent The Run Chase:

Wickets in quick succession reduced us from 69/1 to 88/6 as we suffered a middle-order collapse. The run chase was on when Aman Khan and Pravin Dubey were batting but once they were gone, our hopes faded and we eventually suffered a 31-run defeat after being stifled at 136/8.

Brief Scores:

Delhi Capitals - 136/8 (20), David Warner 54 (27), Phil Salt 21 (17), Harpreet Brar 4/30 lost to Punjab Kings - 167/7 (20), Prabhsimran Singh 103 (65), Sam Curran 20 (24), Ishant Sharma 2/27 (3) by 31 runs.

Player of the Match: Prabhsimran Singh
