Kick-starting our second half of the season with the Northern Derby

"The good thing is that the entire team is doing well, and we are not depending on any one individual. There has always been someone who has taken the responsibility to win matches for us. We have a strong side, and I am glad that we are in this position now."

Words of positivity from our opener Shikhar Dhawan, as he and the tigers move confidently into the second leg. After a dominating win against KKR in the last match at Narendra Modi Stadium, the DC Men in Blue enter the second leg of the season to face the Kings of the North. At Wankhede against PBKS, Shikhar Dhawan led the team to victory with an explicit batting performance. Now the Northern Derby has moved to Ahmedabad in the second leg of the season and we’ve had a good outing so far here, winning the last one and almost winning the one against v/s RCB.

A Roaring First Leg in IPL 2021

We’ve had an impressive 5 victories out of 7 matches. The 2 losses against RR and RCB were narrow ones, as the squad always tried to come back with a bang.

The team has given the fans a show to watch in Mumbai, Chennai, and now at Ahmedabad. We have witnessed a swashbuckling 92 by Gabbar, the only spinner to win a Super Over, Axar Patel and his wizadry, and 6 fours of 6 balls by the young gun Prithvi Shaw, only the second player to do so in IPL. Delhi Capitals have shown their fans a unit that is confident, brave and ready to roar at every stage in the game and fans can look forward to seeing much more in the coming leg.

Stat Attacks

We have a petition to start a show, Gabbar & Shaw: Opening Fire. The duo has given a crackling performance so far this season with 4 fifty+ partnerships in the 7 matches. It’s the most scored by a pair this season. Out of the four, 2 were century partnerships.

Debutant in DC colours, Lalit Yadav and our IPL legend, Mishi Bhai has been impressive in spinning the ball to send the oppositions back to the dugout. At an economy of 5.13, Lalit Yadav is the 2nd most economical spinner (minimum of 8 overs bowled). In terms of strike rates among spinners, this season Mishi Bhai is 2nd with a S/R of 14. Moreover, he will be looking forward to being the all-time leading wicket-taker in IPL as he is 5 wickets away from crossing current holder, Lasith Malinga (170 wickets)

Behind the wickets, Captain Pantastic will be vigilant to dismiss the batsman outside the crease as he is 5 dismissals away from completing 100 T20 dismissals. Dhawan will also look to Thigh-5 more often on the field as he is 4 catches away from overtaking one of the legends of the franchise, Virender Sehwag who has the most catches as a Delhi player. Dhawan has 26 catches and Sehwag has 29.

Head-to-Head

Axar Patel vs KL Rahul

The current Orange Cap holder may be on top of the ladder when it comes to his runs in IPL 2021 but will be up against DC’s finest Axar Patel to confirm his stay there. In the past, Bapu has dismissed him twice & with his current form in the last 3 games, he will be looking forward to doing it the third time.

Shikhar Dhawan vs Mohammed Shami

Delhi Capitals’ opener has had an impressive season in the first leg of the season and will be looking forward to continuing the same. He has confronted the pacer in 10 innings, scoring 88 runs without being dismissed. Will Gabbar continue the impressive strike rate of 154.38 against Shami, or will he have a trick up his sleeve?

It's our third game in Ahmedabad and the boys look confident as ever. The DC Blues have a ‘W’ against PBKS in the first leg, courtesy of Shikhar Dhawan. Will he be able to make it 2 Ws against them, will it be another player to step up and do the same, or is it going to be another ball game altogether? There’s only one way to find out!
