PBKS vs DC | Rilee Rossouw blitzkrieg hands us a memorable win at Dharamshala

We travelled to Dharamshala with a point to prove after our loss to the Punjab Kings at the Qila Kotla last week and our tigers delivered with a brilliant win over PBKS at the HPCA Stadium.

Rilee Rossouw was the star of the show for us on the night as the South African dynamo’s breezy innings with the bat led us to our fifth victory of the TATA Indian Premier League 2023.

PBKS won the toss and sent us in to bat first.

Warner-Shaw get us off to a flier

Both our openers, David Warner and Prithvi Shaw, looked like men on a mission tonight and hardly put a foot wrong. The dynamic duo put on 94 runs on the board -our highest opening partnership this season before Warner was dismissed by Sam Curran just four runs short of his half-century.

Shaw, meanwhile, powered on to complete his 50 but was also sent back to the pavilion by Curran.

Rilee Rossouw brews up a storm

Losing both of our openers, however, hardly dented our scoring rate. Rilee Rossouw took over the reins from the other end. The South African stormed to his first half-century of the season in just 25 balls.

After reaching his 50, Rossouw only upped the ante and finished with an unbeaten 82 off just 37 balls to power us to 213/2 - our highest score this season. Phil Salt, too, contributed to the late onslaught with a breezy 26 off just 14 balls.

Bowlers start off with a bang

Out to defend 213, Khaleel Ahmed got us off and running with a maiden and Ishant Sharma, like always, joined in and dismissed Shikhar Dhawan from the board with his very first delivery of the match.

Tight bowling keeps us in the hunt despite Taide-Livingstone's charge

Prabhsimran Singh, who scored a century against us in the last match, and Atharva Taide then put together a 50-run partnership for PBKS before Bapu struck to get rid of Prabhsimran.

Taide joined hands with Liam Livingstone as both players brought up their respective half-centuries. However, our bowlers, particularly, Kuldeep Yadav, kept a check on the hosts’ run rate.

With 86 needed from the final five overs, PBKS took a tactical call to retire out Taide and send in the hard-hitting Jitesh Sharma. Anrich Nortje, though, ensured the plan counted for little and dismissed Sharma for a duck.

The dangerous Shahrukh Khan also walked back for just six courtesy Ahmed and we were comfortably in the driver’s seat.

Some big hitting by Livingstone towards the end produced some nervy moments for us but in the end, we won the match by 15 runs.

Brief Scores: Delhi Capitals: 213/2 (20), Rilee Rossouw 82* (37), Prithvi Shaw 54 (38), Sam Curran 2/36 beat Punjab Kings: 198/8 (20), Liam Livingstone 94 (48), Atharva Taide 55 (42), Ishant Sharma 2/36, Anrich Nortje 2/36 by 15 runs.
